Can Something Be Wrong?
I wish there were more doctors out there that knew of symptoms that happen to WLS patients. When I had severe pain in my stomach, I mean I was doubled over in pain and I would have that come to me in episodes and I HATE emergency rooms so it would have to take that to get me to go. When I did finally go, they sent me home saying that I should take gas-x. Could gas really hurt that much? I was in the emergency room 3 times in like 1 month with the same pain, and everytime, they did not know what was causing it. Finally, I went to a different hospital and 2 days later, I left without my gallbladder. Since then, I never had that pain again.
Now I'm not saying that it is your gallbladder. I'm just saying that it could be something serious that they are not looking for.
Have you called your WLS surgeon regarding this?
I was having right sided pain radiating into my back for several months...I finally went to my local ER and they gave me a drink to numb my digestive tract...with no tests taken, besides bloodwork, they told me I had acid reflux. My surgeons office prescribed me carafate to go along with the protonix i have been on since surgery of 2005. One month later the pain came back and it was intense. I went to the ER where I had the surgery and they did a ultrasound on my kidneys and also to check if I had gallstones in the ducts (Now I had my gallbladder out in 1996 and I was shocked when the doctor said you can still get stones without the gallbladder) The test was normal...the er and my surgeon set me up for an endoscopy because the next suspicion was an ulcer. They did find an ulcer which they biopsied and I will get the results next week for that. I have to be on a very bland diet now and I am in the middle of quitting smoking(I never wanted to start again in the first place) They want me to go back in 2 months for another endoscope to see how it's healing. When someone mentions ulcers...it seems like it's not a big issue that it's something that heals on it's own in time with medication. I am shocked how much pain one can cause...that at times I couldn't even breathe without severe pain. For now on any stomach pain that lasts...I will go straight to the hospital where my surgeon is from...they know what to look for and they know gastric bypass patients better than small local hospitals do. Well I hope they can get to the bottom of where the pain is coming from...I know the feeling.
