IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO REALIZE THAT 10 POUNDS TO A 140 POUND PERSON WAS JUST AS DRAMATIC AS 100 WAS TO A 300 POUND PERSON. I FINALLY BELIEVE THAT FEELING FAT IS A VERY INDIVIUAL THING. I NEVER CRITISIZE ANYONE DECISION OR RIGHT TO WLS, I HAVE VOICED SOME JEALOUSY BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY CASH BUT THATS JUST HOW IT WAS FOR ME.  TO BE HONEST, IF I ONLY HAD 65 POUNDS TO LOSE I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT WLS TO DRASTIC FOR ME but I ALSO THOUGHT IS WAS TOO DRASTIC WHEN I WEIGHED 360 BECAUSE I WAS VERY ACTIVE AND HAD NO COMORBIDITES....YET     IT TOOK 2 HEEL SPURS KNOCKING ME OFF MY FEET TO REALIZE IT WASNT. BUT LIKE I SAID I FELT IS WAS DRASTIC FOR ME....I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVE IN EVERYONES OWN RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

I feel for ya hon! been there heard all that "you took the surgery too far" with that look...some people do get very very very small post op and then after several months their bodies settle out higher. How far post op are you and which surgery did you have? Do you know how long a bypass your doc did. All these can be a factor in why you got so small. Plus you gotta eat and I'll tell ya, I've had several friends on this site through the years who got very very small and were still eating often and still couldn't get weight back on.     Plus family and others don't often realize that hidden under those huge obese bodies of ours are sometimes a very very small frame!!    Don't let it get to you girl, you're right there's always gonna be someone saying nonsense out of who knows what motivation. The minute I regained 20 lbs they couldn't wait to point THAT out either!!wowsers huh?    {{{hugs}}}

Thanks for that link! It really gives perspective to loss and what percentages are reasonable to expect. I always hate to tell people what I weigh because for my size, a gal at work and I are the same size and she is --get this!-- 40 lbs LESS than I am..it's all about different body types.     When I was at my lowest that would have been at the 90% loss according to the link and right now I am at 75% loss..interesting isn't..    Perspective it all helps!

Hi Diana, I started out at 396 so, I know what it's like to be super morbidly obese.  There are a lot of considerations that people don't think about... for example, our internal organs are larger thus weighing more.  I found this out when I had to have an ultrasound of my heart and the comment was "her heart is extremely large for someone of her size"... I said, well, I used to weigh 400 lbs would that account for it?  The answer was resoundingly yes, that it takes a long time for our organs to catch up and some never do.  Additionally, the excess skin is much greater with higher weights.  I have had 3 ps procedures so far with a total of 23 lbs of skin removed.  I still have 1 more procedure left... additionally, I had conservative surgeons; so, if I went in for revisions, I have no doubt I've got at least another 10 lbs of skin.  Lastly, I know that for myself, I've been on a diet since I was 6.  So, having spent all of my life in a HUGE body... when I hit 155-160 I became comfortable.  I could eat normally... not badly but not as good as I could either, etc.  Then, about a year later I decided I wanted to "diet" again.  Through this "diet" I am now looking at about 140 with a personal goal of 135.  Now, having said this... I've also had 2 weight loss surgeries and the 3 plastics procedures.  Everyone is so different.  You have done marvelous and your observation about losing 100 lbs is right on target. Keep up the good work, Jackie

Diana, I have read all these post replies and feel mostly they could not have said it all any better...What I would like to say as a "lightweight" is you have posted many replies on my topics and others I've read that were very insightful and helped me a great deal - to me this is was is special and awesome about you, that you really care and want to help ALL other post-ops...So like many others have said, brush off the B.S. cause there are hateful people everywhere and they need to look to themselves first - In the end its not about the number you reach its about feeling better and healthier than ever before and maintaining that goal and I think you are doing an outstanding job of doing that

Diana, I bet if you were to look at the profiles of people who send you those kind of emails, all of their posts are negative.  I have noticed a few folks on here never have anything good to say, always snide comments and rude inuendos are found in their posts.  When I see their names/pics by a statement or reply, I just skip right over it.  The only thing I can say is if you and your doc are happy, it really doesn't matter what a sad, hateful , spiteful person has to say.  You are doing great, and I understand the frustration, I started at 420, so not a light weight (ever). Have a good weekend Darlene

I hate labels and us vs. them Some would say I was a liteweight at 260 going in to surgery. however at my height it put me at a BMI of 53  - which is super morbid obese.  so, labels are deceptive the real issue is not light weights or who weighed what or who "deserved" surgery etc, but support. we are here for support, not slams.  we all lose differing amounts, both in number and percentage of weight lost.  the only thing you can really do is remember those who slam are saying more about themselves and their own insecurities than  about you. their words expess their own weaknesses and fears.

*applause* Yes, this should be all about SUPPORT and nothing less.  Diverse personalities add a bit of "fun" in dysFUNctional but it is good to be individually healthy so that the differences are easily distinguished.   I have always maintained and will to my death that people give advice through two things: their fears and their insecurities.  It is in this context that off the wall or seemingly not fully rational advice should be taken. Obviously, some of us do have valuable information and experience more than others as it is in life in ALL aspects.  A keen eye and proper perspective should sort these out. Let's take the good and leave the rest.  I do not support anyone who has not been supportive.  Being supportive doesn't mean that you have to agree with any poster but it does mean that information and support should be shard with love, kindness, compassion, and empathy!  I think I repeated myself there a few times!   Life is too short to allow oneself to be affected by negative people and/or comments.  That said, we don't have to be friends with everyone we meet but there is never any reason to be MEAN  or DISRESPECTFUL to anyone -- regardless of labels - and unfortunately there are many more than "heavyweights" and "lightweights."  If only we could all be proactive and supportive.  What a world it would be, aye? Good advice, Willow, as usual!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
