I believe that for we need atleast 1000 calories a day or our bodies will go into starvation mode  after a bit. I dont believe anyone should look for "quick fixes"  aim for a pound a week to keep it doable & maintanable, ofcourse I am not a Dr. or Nutrionist but I have done alot of reading.  why are you looking for a fats loss? Good luck Diana RNY 9/17/03 Dr. Roe. 360/200/still aiming at 180

Anita Jo, You are not consuming enough in a day. You should try to get in 1000-1200 calories a day. You are wanting to snack at night because you are most likely starving. Try eating a sensable breakfast, lunch and dinner. Avoid the Lean Cuisines. I know they are a pre-portioned meals, but the consistency is not enough to keep you full. These types of meals are really easy to eat and do not keep you full long enough. I always tell people to stay away from these types of meals. In a bind, they are great every once in awhile, but don't make them a part of your daily routine. After one day of eating real meals, and you still find yourself wanting to snack at night, then go ahead and get yourself a protein drink.

dakota mom, i am not done eating for the day. still havent had supper. i just had a yogurt with my flax seed meal for a snack. i dont eat the lean cuisines hardly ever. i had a free coupon for this one. i usually do make my meals. now what about carbs. the other day i saw someone say there are only allowed 20 a day. that seems very low. what is the amounts of carbs, fats, prot a day we shoud have? i know now at least 1000-12000 calories a day. will you help me.. i do sometimes have a shake for breakfast. i do have oh yeah protein bars too i eat sometimes. thanks so much.  anita

Anita Jo,  The only suggestion I can honestly make to you is record what you eat on any given day in a food dairy and see what works for you. Everyone can handle different amounts. I can eat 60-80 g of carbs in a day and maintain. When I was loosing I was eating 50-60 g of carbs a day. However, there are several who cannot even handle that..say someone who is diabetic. Start counting your calories first and then tweek your carbs and fat grams once you have established a pattern where you can know you loose steady. This is a steady change for many the futher they get out. There are no set numbers. Hugs~ Gail

I do 6 shakes a day, but they contain 0g sugar, under 160 cal and deliver 30g protein.  I don't touch milk.  At all, ever, because of the sugar.  I do 4 meals, 2 being more meal-like, 2 being more snack-like.  Can you make your meals more protein/veggie heavy and ditch the milk and other sugars?
