I had the surgery on 12/05 and my husband had it 5/05.  We are both happy that we had it done - have not had any problems.  Enjoy being able to do so much more now.  My husbands diabetes is gone - no more insulin or meds.  No more hip or knee pain and heartburn.  It doesn't solve all of your problems but it does make them easier to manage.

Even though I had a  complication ( infection which put me back in the hospital for a week) I only have the regret that I waited so long to have this surgery. I am down 120 lbs... I still have a hard time believing it ! I weigh now what I did over 30 years ago ! The main thing is to keep a positive outlook. Even in the hospital I would think to myself " this time next year I will be so much healthier" between that and a very supportive hubby I feel good !  In the beginning you may feel like "what did I do to myself" but give it a few weeks. You will see .... Good Luck, Sandy

I like many others only regret that I didn't have surgery earlier. Totally honest I had the best of recoveries, was back to work in 2 weeks and have had no complications. I have not yet gotten to my goal but have learned a great deal about myself after WLS.  2 things to always remember, WLS is a tool that YOU have to learn to use well. It may not  be the only tool you will have to rely on.   Plus the WLS is on your "stomach" not your brain. You will have to learn new, more healthy habits and get tough with yourself every now and then.  Good luck with your choice. Being nervous is totally normal but you do need to be certain no matter what decision you will make and only you can make the choice.   -Terri

Regret... no .. the best thing is the health benefit..  Could it have been easier.. yes.. build yourself a support team..  I was alone going through this and that has been tough..  By support I don't mean support groups I mean the people you live with..  Alone this is almost impossible at least it was for me..  I  wish you success... and a speedy recovery.  Good Luck

In my first few weeks out after open rny I wondered what I had done to myself and why~I felt miserable and mentally was not in a good place, BUT other than that intial "AHHHH" feeling I have never regretted my decision. I am so much healthier and happier now that it was all worth it! Good Luck to You!

I have a couple of regrets.... 1.  I didn't have the surgery sooner! 2.  I didn't take full advantage of the 1st year when the weight just falls off!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat!  Even though I haven't reached my weight goal, I have reached my life goal.  My health is great, my mobility level is outstanding.  I've got my life back.  My old massive size is no longer  an obstacle to my enjoying life to the fullest!! It's been a great blessing that I will forever treasure! All the best... Denise

NO I do not have any regrets I had my surgery on 11/29/2004, My husband had it done on 2/23/05 and my daughter had it on 4/3/06.  NO REGRETS! Just remember this surgery can have its complications and should not be taken lightly.  Also it is not going to be your answer to your weight problem.  OH YES the first 6 months the weight will just come off no matter what however, once your out a year or better you must work at keeping it off.  THE WLS you have (regardless of the type) will be a tool to help you in loosing the weight and keeping it off.  I look at it like this I can diet 4 – 5 days a week eat what I want on Fri. Sat and Sun and maintain my goal weight.

GOOD LUCK

I do regret not having surgery in my 20s and waiting until I was almost 500 lbs before I decided to have surgery.   I just wasn't mentally prepared for it.  I kept thinking "i can do this on my own"....I sure did it on my own, I dieted myself up to 492 lbs.    The DS was the absolute best thing that could have ever happened to me.  I went from 472 lbs the day of surgery feb 2006 to weighing 216 as of today.   In terms of the surgery itself I have no regrets.  Scott
