Accountability - What did you eat, Thursday 4/12?

Friday the 13th, Woooo...The radio station I listen to had a list of things you should and shouldn't do on Friday the 13th, it was kind of fun... Yesterday was a TERRIBLE food day for me...After looking at it last night I wanted to try an analize what happened in relation to other days I've logged...Looks like when I eat a real sugar product like pie or cake it triggers me to want to snack continuously  throughout the day, haven't figured out if it is actually the combo of carbs and sugar or a mental thing (like pre-surgery where I would say to myself, I've already blown today, so start fresh tomorrow, kind of thing, know I didn't consciously say this but)...Anyway here is my food and I know I am to be more conscious about this in the future: B - 1/3 a mini loaf rochester poop bread       20 oz 1/2 sf/ff cinnamon dulce latte S - 1 oz lf cheddar       10 mini cheddar pretzels       1" slice chocolate cake with 1 bite of the icing       1 sf caramel L - 2 oz london broil      1 oz havardi cheese      4 parmasen cracker twists      sf jello pudding snack size S - 2 pieces sf caramels       2 protein balls D - 1 1/2 c guiness onion soup w/ sourdough and irish cheddar crust       3/4 cup caesar salad S - 1 sugar cookie       chocolate/banana/strawberry protein frappe PLUS - 66 oz water/crystal light

I have found that when I "loose control" it is usually with carbohydrates.  I cannot handle sugar very well except for the raw sugar I use in my coffee.  I am currently using the old Mayo Clinic Diet that I used in the past and I loose weight on this pretty well.  Basically, it is low carbohydrate/high protein with the addition of 1/2 grapfruit with each meal and no in-between meal snacking.  My worse problem is with snacking after 9:00 PM- this is when I really loose control.  Whenever I'm not sleeping well and I have a lot on my mind, I want to snack all night, which is really bad.  It's kind of ironic isn't it?  We thought after this surgery that we would never have trouble with weight gain again and it comes sneaking back in, slowly but surely.

Thanks for the input, you are so right, I am finding out after a bit of analyzing that just eating very carb-y foods without any protein to help balance it is definately a trigger to me to want to snack more...So many have said, and it is so true, its a continuous learning process, find out more about how food controls me weekly and I'm sorry to say I think it does still control me more than I control it...I'm working on it all, the good news I have a lifetime ( an now a much healthier body to live in) to figure it out...

About a year after surgery you will see all the other patients and it will suprise you how much weight they are loosing.  It's like you see them one month and just a few weeks later they look even thinner and, we all do this without thinking too much about what we are eating simply because we are eating so little of it.  Then, the capacity to eat more and more creeps in and before we know it, we gain a pound here and a pound there and, of course, we aren't paying too much attention because by then we don't really consult the scale that much; why should we, because we have had our stomachs decreased to the size of a 3-year-old.  I remember talking with a friend of mine who had the surgery and she had just went through the drive-thru at Wendy's and she told me how nice it was to not worry about eating Wendy's and not having to hide the fact that she was eating at Wendy's and I remember a slight twinge thinking, what if this isn't the case?  Well fast forward 4 years and I found out the twinge was right; all the Wendy's, Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc. has reared it's ugly face again with the extra pounds creeping back on.  Isn't it so very tiring?  I have just recently come the the decision that for the rest of my life, and I'm sure every weight loss patient will agree, food will always be the thing we constantly have to monitor and in a way, respect.  Like I read on one of these posts, whoever said we lost weight the "easy way" are full of it and obviously don't know what they are talking about.  Our relationship with food will always have to be one of our control of our emotions in order to stop it from causing us so much pain and worry.  Basically, if you're like me, eating is 90% emotional so I am back at the beginning, before I even had the surgery, learning how to control my emotions and figure out what is making me want to eat and then, finally once and for all, deal with it.

Thank you Virginia, For the wonderful words that say it so eloquently...At 6 years or so out I think you have a pretty sound idea of how it goes...I'm coming up on my 2 year anniversary and still feel like a baby in many ways, still in the early learning stages of my post surgery, for me too food is about emotions...One of the conscious choices I make is to weigh myself daily, even when I went on my anniversary cruise last November I went into the gym every morning to weigh in...I keep hearing and reading from longer than me post-ops about how it keeps getting easier to forget I had this surgery and feel like a "normal" person...My relationship with food is not normal and I definately know that I have to monitor myself...One of the reasons I feel I got so fat in the 1st place was because I threw out the scale when it started reading #'s I didn't want to see, that is a huge part of why I now choose to weigh every day, I know I never want to let myself get to that place again...Thank you for your input...

I had a bad eating day yesterday too and I have been really disappointed in myself all day! Today has been better, but the evenings seem to kill me and I blow it!   Your post made me feel better....not because you had a bad day too, but because I am not the only one who loses control time and again! Hugs- Cindy
