Vitamins? - Lab results back Need to take supplements
Ok I got my lab results in some concerns. B12 and Folate are low.
My results are B12 = 280 Folate = 2.8
Dr Said I need to start regular B12 injections and take Folic acid supplement 4ml/day.
Is there a specific type of Folic Acid we need to take, and is it hard to give yourself the injections. They wrote me a script for the B12 i need to pick up but if I have them give it is $20 every time for a dr visit.
I guess this may explain why I have been so tired and out of sorts lately.
So I need to revamp my vitamin intake, what vitamins does everyone take?
This is what I have taken since day one. The only thing extra I take is more calcuim (cause I'm old, and need it, LOL)
It has extra B-12 and folic acid. You can get them at walgreens.com, the shipping is free if you order 2 or more at a time.

Good luck

I do B-12 once a week (Trader Joes has one with 1500 mg - its way high for me but I like the taste), had to start B Complex liquid (something going on with white cells and Dr thinks its a B absorption problem), Calcuim Citrate (1500 mg) I use the yummy citracal lemon treats...its like candy for me. And of course my fav candy Optisource vitamins.
So far the blood work has been good with that white cell exception.
B12 deficiency is not good. Find something you like and stick to it....they are cheap enough but remember B12 takes a long time to build up again.

See if you can find folic of about 1mg (1000 mcg). There are sublinguals for this.
Your numbers are scary and I'm glad your doc knows it. Most docs thinks 280 is JUST FINE.
The nurse should show you how to give the B12 IM, but there are instructions here:

check the archives, as someone has written the instructions and done photos to show you EXACTLY how to do it.
many of us have had to do our own shots for years. Your Rx B12 is cheap, cheap, cheap and if he writes for the syringes (3ml, 25g, 1"), they should be cheap, too.
If someone can shoot you, you have arms, glut and thighs. You can do your own thighs. We've been doing our own for 7 years. I don't like sublinguals (or lozenges or hard candy) so these are way easier for me. I want to keep my B12 numbers over 800.
Here's is another site which may or may not have photos, but does have clear instructions.
