Hi, I am 3 years out as of March 17th and have gained 20 pounds.  I am trying to get back on track.  What are the best snacks?  I know it is not good to snack, but as an elementary teacher I need a snack when the others are having snack.  Any help will be appreciated. Susan

Susan; I try to stick with almonds for a snack during they day. They're low glycemic index and full of protein and good fats. And I've heard cashews are good as a natural mood enhancer, but I haven't tried them...I've got too many almonds already. Good luck!

I am also 3 years out as of March 5th. I too have gained about 20-25 lbs and trying hard to stay on track. For snacks I like to have 1oz of cheese, almonds, pria carb select bar or sf pudding. It really depends on what you crave. I love my sweets but I try to stay away from too much fruit. You can also try dannon carb control yougurt. Good Luck!

I'm 18 months out and my favorite snack is beef jerkey.  You can take it anywhere and it's good protein.  I know it's not good to snack either, but at least it's protein and not those nasty carbs. Kim

For snacks, I enjoy a lowfat cheesestick wraped in a sice of turkey breast lunch meat with mustard. I also do fruits such as an apple with peanut butter... Just be careful of nut products if any in your cass has allergies. I enjoy Kroger brand carb master yogrt with 12 gms of protein and soy chips Hope these ideas help. Melinda

I also really enjoy the kroger brand carb master yogurt. I sprinkle flax seed on mine for the omega 3"s. My favorite flavor is strawberry. I used to enjoy raspberry but can't find it any longer at my store.

I am also a teacher and I eat dannon light and fit yogurt with granola, banana and strawberries mixed in, or cashews, cottage cheese and a few crackers, protein bar, peanut butter and apple, cheese stick or FF and SF pudding or some soy chips.  I eat a variety of foods.  Good Luck!

Hi there - I would say nuts, low fat string cheese, yogurt, protein bar - stuff like that would be good (and portable). Also, snacking isn't the same as grazing.  I think grazing is what you're thinking of when you say its not good to snack.  Snacking is good to keep your blood sugar from spiking and dropping throughout the day. Congrats on getting on track - you should be proud of yourself for staying in control.

If you can get Fage yogurt (Greek yogurt and pronounced Fa-yeh) it is filling and you can do lots with it. The Total 0% has no fat, no cholesterol, low sodium, carbs and sugar and, best of all, 13 gms of protein in the 5 oz container. It is unflavored and a bit too tart for my taste. I give it a good squeeze of sugar free maple syrup, throw in sliced almonds and it is great. Fair warning that is almost double the price of regular yogurt but a lot healthier. Good luck. Wilma
