Hello, Im new here I had my surgery May of 2002 and I never reached my goal weight and I have recently gained about 20lbs. I am so desperate to loose this weight I know it has to do with my eating habits drinking with my meals and not exercising. Has anyone joined Weigh****chers and lost any weight. Thank you, Rebecca

Yes, I lost weight on Weigh****chers last summer but I didn't stick with it. A fellow WLS grad said that she is doing well with it.

Thank so much for replying. Did you do the point system or the core diet.?

I used the point system, and it did seem to work for weight loss, but I wasn't getting in enough protein at all.

I lost a lot of weight with WW prior to WLS.  The points system is really easy and a healthy way to eat for most people.  I joined again 6 months post op.  I found that doing the points gave me too much leeway to eat carbs.  I continued to lose weight and re-learned portion control, but I didn't really FEEL good.  I was staying within the points but eating pretzels and not as much protein.  I switched over to the CORE plan in January and did feel good with that [and continued to lose weight].  For me, I physically feel the best when I follow the Pouch Rules FIRST AND FOREMOST.  For me it has been better to focus on them and stop WW.

Anyway, I think WW is a great plan for learning portion control, for getting a handle on your eating, and I do think if you follow it you will lose weight.  The weekly weigh ins were really good for accountability and I found a leader that I loved and being with other people who are focused on losing weight was also good for me.

However you do it, being in control of your eating and making sure you exercise, GOOD LUCK!

I went through a period last fall where I had gained 20 lbs back. I have never reached goal either but have been pretty happy still going from a tight womans 32 to a 16-18. To me, that is success. I have never been a size 12 and could not imaigne that for myslef. I am healthy, I work out and eat good. I did lose that 20 pounds eating better. I was so distraught that my $100 jeans were too tight. They are now a little loose. I used some of the concepts that that Dr. Oz talks about. I cut out all white flour products and sugar. I dropped the weight pretty quickly. I fell off the wagonn during the holidays and am now purging my system by swearing off all starch and sugar for a month. I got sick recently and lost another 7 pounds. This week I have no succcess, but feel a ton better. The thing is, we will always have to be careful. We are still that same obese person in our heads. I do not fell bad about it though. Most regular people live on a pepetual diet to stay slim. We are no different really. They exercise and watch what they eat. We have to too. It takes sacrifice and didligence to maintain. I am ok with that today. I am willing to do whatever I have to. There is no easy answer or easy way out anymore. We were given a running start. It is up to us now to keep it going. You have to find the motivation in yourself. Good luck!

HI Rebecca, I have not tried WW but I know many who have and had great success.  I also never reached goal and recently due to other medical issues found my pouch is much bigger than my new surgeon thinks it should be. So in June when I have surgery on my hiatal hernia he is going to do a revision of my pouch.  I would like to lose 40 more pounds but if I dont I still feel great.. My fear is more future weight gain if my pouch really is as big as they say it is... I know I can eat more now but I use my husband as an indicator to stop eating..He's a WLS patient too and went to my new surgeon for his surgery.  I would talk to my surgeon to see if your pouch size could be an issue,  I would have never thought of that if they hadnt found it during my tests. Good luck for future success...

If you can't stand behind the troops... stand in front of them... PLEASE!

Hey Rebecca, I do Weigh****chers now(on my own, don't attend meetings). I am doing the Core plan and thoroughly enjoy it. I done WW a million times before surgery but never the core plan because I thought it was too restrictive, but now I love it. I chose it in the beginning because I thought I would not be able to eat a flex size portion and on core you eat to satisfaction. If you have any questions about it just email me and I'll be glad to talk with you about anything. Candy [email protected]

I'm with Candy.  I do WW Core and think it is an excellent program for me being post-op.  I do not know how successful I would have been preop, but it is just right for me as a postop.  It has helped me to learn that whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat pasta are not evil like some post-op eating plans imply.  Core is all about emphasizing lean protein, complex carbs and fiber while severely restricting fat and refined carb intake.  I think this program will work well for you if you also include some exercise with it. Good luck, Becca!

I am 3 years out on the 8th of April, and I have also gained weight. I know that it is my fault. I was at goal, but then slowly re-introduced the "no-no" foods. I rarely dumped, and found that if I spaced those "bad" foods throughout the day, I could satisfy my cravings that returned. It is so true, that we have to have a mind change.  I also stopped going to the support group, and I am going to start attending them again. I have gained 35 pounds back. It feels terriable! I feel I have failed, but I have to get back on track, and LOSE those pounds!
