GAINED 20, PROTEIN DRINKS?

My surgery date was in March of 2004 and I went from 280 to 150.  I maintained 150 until I had my breast augmentation in June of 2006 when I gained 10 lbs and haven't lost any of that.  I know they weigh something, but I don't think 10 lbs, that's a bit rediculous.   Since then, I've gained 10 additional pounds and weigh about 167 right now...I lost 3 yesterday.  I went to Susan Maria's site and they talk about doing liquid protein only to get jump started or just to do protein only food...I noticed here though, that I'm not seeing that anyone else is doing anything like that and Reenie even said not to do that.   I'm trying very hard to get this off and I WILL SUCCEED!  I know why I've gained.  I've started consuming more bad carbs, potatoes and rice and that kind of thing.  Well, I've cut that out now and am exercising on the treadmill a decent amount.  I've always stayed with prmarily protein first and some salad...just have been letting some of those bad starches creep back in.  I have never taken my vitamins correctly, but now vow to do that...I've never followed the no drink with meal thing either and as of yesterday, started that.  Just from not drinking with my meals and for 1 hour after, I stayed full longer and lost 3 of those pounds...I know some of it HAS TO be water weight...I don't care, want it gone. Bottom line, I just bought some protein shakes to try to jumpstart the weight loss....now I'm not sure I should have...would like some thoughts on this. Oh, and I did used to post on here quite a bit back before and up to the 1st year after surgery, but never a real regular at posting, so no one may remember me, but I remember seeing Reenie on here since the beginning. Hey Dena!  Welcome back! It sounds like you are definitely on the right track for getting control of your slight weight gain.  It seems consistent that people tend to gain a few pounds back right around the second year mark - some manage it well and others struggle a bit. I can't really imagine that the protein drinks would contribute to weight gain - unless they are just really packed with lots of calories.  If they have moderate calories/carbs, I think you are fine.  As with everything else, moderation is the key. Keep up the protein consumption, the exercise, the vitamins and the water consumption and I'm sure you can get that weight off!! Good luck! Hugs!   Kristi

I drink 3 protein shakes every day made with water.  I drink no milk.  I really think the protein shakes help me.  I never feel hunger.  I think it's good not to drink with meals.  That will really help you.  Keep up the exercise, water and protein and you will succeed.  Good luck!

I do 6 or more protein drinks/day made with water (30g each).  Part of the trick is placement.  Are you a volume eater? Put them 15-30 minutes before your meal.  Grazer?  Put them 2 hurs after your meal. I have a Starting Over thing that I use, but you''d have to email me privately.  Too bulky and boring to post.  LOL   [email protected] As far as doing what we call the Protein Feast, we've had success doing this for many years now.  Only 3 days on the protein and water only is my suggestion, then breaking into salads and protein foods again.

Could I please have the starting over diet?  I'm trying to get 20 carbs in a day.......but I seem to only get in around 600 or 700 cals a day.  How many carbs should I be eating and how many cals should I be having a day. I'm 1 yr and almost 2 months out and lost about 105 lbs. Can use all the help I can get. Linda
