Hi, I haven't been on here in quite some time. I got in a car accident six months ago and am still healing from that. My question is, is there still hope for me? I never made my weight goal of 150. I have gained almost 50 pounds, sugar is ruining me. I wished i would of never of tried to eat it. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I am getting desperate. I do not want to regain all i have lost, but food seems to winning again in my life. Thanks for listening.

I can feel your pain.  I lost 104 lb before I started gaining again.  so far I have regained 20 of thoese lbs.  I am working with Kathy Bickel from the Pa site.  We are going to set goals for ourselves  and then we are going to either check in once a week, once every 2 week, or once a month.  We have not decided yet.   My goal is to cut my bread consumption to 2 pieces of bread a day or less.  Walk 5,000 steps a day for the first week and then increase 1,000 or 2,000 steps after until I reach 10,000 steps a day. My doctor is big on walking.   Do you want to  join our support goup.  I know how hard it is to do this by yourself. Natalie

Hi Natalie - how do you 'join' your group?  Is it an on-line group or local?

I know it is so tough to get back on track, but it sounds like you really need to wean yourself off sugar.  You might want to limit even sugar free foods as even fake sweetness makes you want more sweetness.  I find if I stick with my protein first, it is a lot easier to not do the processed carbs.  I don't know what you do in terms of exercise, but you might want to increase that as well. I know that while the surgery has allowed me to lose the weight, dieting and maintaining will always be a part of my life. Good luck, Sally

I too am addicted to sugar.  Never happened to me before surgery.  I guess that we trade one addiction for another.  I am personally glad it is not alcohol.  I have never reached my goal of 140 lbs.  Had an incisional hernia repaired that was much worse than the surgeon thought and as a result I could not stay constipated during that recovery.  Needless to say, I left my old protein only ways.  I do hardly ever touch bread, potato or pasta but my indulgence is sugar candy after I have had my protein.  I am about 30 or 35 pounds from my goal and once Easter is over I am back on it.  I may join a program to help others like us.  I am in Utah and there is one available here.  I am not going to buy a bigger size pants for a Cadbury egg.  I exercised quite a bit during the winter with -0- effect, which I thought was weird but as soon as I went a week with no sugar I dropped weight like there was no tomorrow.  I heard a big story on people like us who turn to other addictions.  I need to find a different outlet. Good luck

It is online.  We are just setting ourselves goals and then we are going to report back to each other how we are doing.  It has not been decided if it is going to be once a week once every two weeks or once a month.  I have not heard from Kathy since I posted my goals yesterday.

I too had been eating sugar. Not just sugar but bread and pasta. It's a staple in an Italian home. So I went from 126 as my low to my new high ps of 161.5! I have caught myself and begun getting back on track. First go back to splenda if you are really stuck on the candy thing. Then slowly try to wean yourself back from that. I have lost 7.5 lbs just by cutting the pasta and bread so I'm down to 154 but need to get to a goal weight of 135 or 130. I prefer 130 but slowly but surely. Quit beating yourself up. Like an addict the old saying you hear "Today is the first day of the rest of your life" get over yesterday. Live in today and do what you can today to do your best. When you go to sleep tonight and wake up in the morning do it again. I know it's not easy. I know relapse is tough on you mentally because I too have relapsed but it is not like you are starting out at square one again. You aren't looking at losing 200 lbs today right?? It will be ok. Today is the first day of the rest of your life...so for today make the best possible choices for yourself and your health. Start by throwing the candy in the garbage....and I mean in the garbage out of your house. Next go and get something sweet with splenda so when you feel the temptation you can allow yourself a little something sweet without completely sabatoging your weight. I have found that I am almost addicted to sugar. If I eat sugar today I will crave it for days. I'm not kidding. If I eliminate it and don't have it...I don't miss it. Throw out the candy...you can do it.!
