4 YR Post-op
I eat sensibly (protein, vegatables, whole grains). I stay away from unhealthy snacks and I've never had refined sugar since my surgery. I still do not drink with my meals. I eat half of what is served in a restaurant and if soup and salad come with the meal than I have it boxed up before it even comes to the table. I take my vitamins and supplement every day without fail. If I'd exercise more regularly I'd lose the last 20 lbs that I've been battling with for three years however for the first time in my life I'm healthy, happy with my weight, and maintaining. Good up the good work. It is worth it!
Congrats to u that's a gr8 feeling to know u have succeeded so far and I say so far, because everyday is a challenge for us all. I am 15 months out, lost 111lbs, down to 119 and am below goal. I think i look gr8, and I certainly feel it, but there are some people who keep telling me I'm too skinny, i don't mind hearing it of course because it took me a million years to be able to hear that. I know that I have lost more than I should, but I eat right, excersise everyday, and do pretty much everything by the bood. I am very scared of ever falling back and gaining weight again, that's why I am careful. Maybe I do obsess a little, and my therapist is worried that I'm going to lose too much and become anorexic, but I have promised her I won't. I haven't eaten any bread, pasta, rice or potatoes at all in the last 15 months, and no sugar except that found in milk, yogurts, natural fruits and my south beach protein bars i eat every day for breakfast. I am just so happy where I am right now and not only physically but emotionally. I am able to deal with the stressful stuff a little easier these days without feeling that anger I had towards myself in the old 'fat' days. I have absollutely no regrets at all about having this surgery, I feel I owed it to myself and my family.
Thanks and take care.

We are on a continuous journey without a destination
Congrats, you 4 year Postie!!!!
Way to go on LIFESTYLE changes you've made. As a 5.5 year Postie, that's truly the way to achieve "healthy' and maintain "healthy"!!!
As you, I've not eaten refined sugar - period. When eating out w/ family friends I have OCCASIONALLY allowed myself to sip a bit with meals. Then I go back to rigid - no drinking with meals as my lifestyle.
I purpose to (still) eat/snack 6 x per day - keeps my blood sugar level and avoids the hypoglycemic lows: healthy choices - always a complex carb + a protein.
How amazing to look back now and realize the "new you" is the "actual you" (weird - but does that make sense?)-- my "old me" has faded and is continuing to fade weekly - with exception for the gratitude: I'm so grateful for this amazing life and being allowed this opportunity for a "new life" which makes my spiritual life/journey even deeper / richer!
Yes! God is so good!
Congratulations!!!!
