Thyroid Medication Change = weight gain
I normally am a lurker - but want to know if others have experienced this - my PCP had changed the dosage of my synthyroid from .175 to .150 saying I have too much thyroid medication - but - since the switch I've gained 10 lbs. I've increased my water, watching what I eat and exercise but the scale seems to go up not stable or down - it's driving me crazy - has anyone else experienced this??
Its possible... How much time has passed? I was alternating 220 and 175 mcg and doc dropped me to 175 every day... guess what.... not that I have gained wt, but sure am not losing either AND my hair is really starting to fall out again... AND im EXHAUSTED all the time....
Sooooooooooooo I just had my level drawn again and fully expect him to up it again... If he doesnt.. I will change drs... my level is just over the upper end BUT if I am symptomatic... its an issue...
Have your level drawn again!

My PCP has me alternate between 300 to 350 MCG depending on how she feels (I think) I am currently on the 300 since 3/1 and I feel tired and scale not moving either. I think she is just afraid because my dosage is so large...but I only feel "right" on 350. I am sure next lab result she will up again. I get tested every 8 weeks...I have ALOT of Prescirption bottles :-)
I will tell you that it 4 years to get my PCP to accept the dosage I really needed...only you know your body really....dont give up!!!
BTW my RNY surgeon said thyroid meds were bull..."all fat people get diagnosed with hypothyroidism'". After 2 years I let him convince me to stop the meds and lets just say that after 3 months I crashed....he couldnt have been more apologetic when he saw the labs. Guess some of us "fatties'" ok "ex fatties" really have Hypothyroidism.

360/200/ still aiming hard for 180
We moved and I changed PCP...He said that I didn't need levothyroxin that my blood work was just fine without it. 12 months later I underwent surgery for a goiter and nodules... He immediately put me back on the med even though 'your blood work doesn't warrant it'. ???? Sometimes I wonder of they know what they are doing...and the norms for the thyroid blood work has changed and many doctors and labs still use the old norms.
And who is to say that if I am in the low normal range that that is enough for me? If I am experiencing all of the symptoms (and nothing else is going on) then why not put me on some meds raise my levels to the medium high range and see if it helps the symptoms!!
Oh No You have just found one of my pet peeves...sorry
Because of the cross... It is well with my soul
