KJ, I had a dr. goal of 110 to lose, actually lost 124 (+/- 3 on any given day)...Having said that, I think need is a very subjective word...The extra skin did/does not look too bad except when I'm in a very self critical mode, most of it bounced back pretty well (I'm 40 by the way)...Was lucky (this may sound weird) to have a post GBS hernia, when I got approval for repair, my surgeon applied for me to get a panni removal at the same time, it was approved and I was able to get the saggy belly skin taken off, that skin was definately my worst saggy issue with it hanging down to cover most of my pubis area and making the fit/look of pants icky...In all though, you are right, I think alot of the bounce back has to do with age and genetics as it does with total pounds lost...

When I started, I needed to loose 65 lbs to be in the heathly weight range, although I have lost up to 110 lbs before steadying back out. Do I need plastics? No. Yes I would love to have it done, but no I do not need it. The loose skin is not pretty, but it is not unliveable. I carried most my weight around my thighs, still do so I would love to have them done some day, but again. I could live without it also.

I lost 110 lbs and really don't need plastics. I would love to have them on my thighs and a tummy tuck but I don't think I have anymore loose skin than someone who has had 4 children should. I did get a breast augmentation and lift to one side after having a mastectomy and the plastic surgeon saying that it wasn't worth doing reconstruction on the side that was gone if I wasn't even going to be a full A . LOL. by the way I am now 47 but was 43 when I had RNY

Alesia, I'm 40 also. I've only had one pregnancy, but my c-section scar is vertical. I guess i'll see what happens. Thanks for everyone that responded. KJ

My goal weight was -109 from my highest known weight. I'm currently -118. I'm 34 years old, 16 months post-op and wear a size 4 top and size 6 pants. Would I like to have a tummy tuck and a breast lift? Of course, I never had a "bikini body" in my 20s, and that's one thing I'd love to have. Do I need a tummy tuck and breast lift? Not really. I don't have enough skin that I'm getting rashes or boils and I live in South Texas where it's already hot enough for those issues to be rearing their ugly head. I wholeheartedly believe I need to give my skin at least two years to catch up, but even after that time, I probably won't pursue plastics as I've seen few after photos that have the results that I'd be happy with. I'd rather stick with the known than spend a lot of money out of pocket, endure additional surgery and potentially be disappointed with the results. I don't have any skin issues that aren't covered by my clothes or a swimsuit with decent support. It does help that my husband and I have been together for 17 years, he's seen the good, the bad and the ugly and loved me every single day of it. I'd definitely be more concerned with it if I were exploring a new relationship.

I have lost 110 lbs. and I am not happy with my extra skin.  Can I live with it? Yes, but will I no.  I am scheduled to have a lowere body lift done in July.  I carried most of my weight in my belly and butt and the skin just won't bopunce back enough.  I am very self consious my pants don't fit correctly.  I need to buy a larger size to get them around my middle then they are usually to big around my waist.  I would also like my breasts and neck done at some time.  I can live with my arms and legs.  I would have needed a tummy tuck any ways since it never went bak after having a c-section.  My skin also does not like to be streched since i am covered with strech marks.  I know my skin is not as bad as other peoples but it does bother me emotionally but not medically.  Once my plastics have been finished then I should feel that my weightloss jpourney has ended.  Keep in mind exercising does help some what with you extra skin.  By the way I am 40 years old and wear between 4-6 both top and bottoms.

I'm 42 years old, had surgery at 40 and lost 135 lbs.  Did I absolutely have to have plastics, no?  Did I, yes just 13 days ago and I'm so darn happy I did.  I had an anchor cut TT along with a brachioplasty (arms) and a breast lift with implants.  OMG, I am loving the new look totally with a minor revision maybe needed in a few weeks but nothing signifant. I had only 3.3 lbs of skin removed from my tummy, compared to what many have (10-20 lbs) I'd say mine would be considered more vanity than anything but I wanted it gone and had the financial capacity to do it so I did.   I'll depend on your genetics and such but given the chance to have plastics I'd think you'll want the opportunity it really does change the whole outlook in how I few myself. Good luck! Dana

I had only about 90 to lose and only about 10 left.  I am 50 and the arms are bad.  My stomach is livable, my upper thighs are crepe paper-like.  Will I get plastics?  No.  I have seen arm scars on folks who have had arm surgery and they (the scars) , in my opinion, look as bad as the skin and shouldn't be seen either.  So thank God 3/4 length sleeves are in.  I also don't scar well myself.  Also, it seems that in the people I know who have had arm surgery (which is all I would really want), the elbows are left lumpy.  I have seen it in several people.  That's not attractive either, and all have said the doctors say something about not wanting to mess with nerves in that area. My sister had a total body lift after GBS at the age of 63.  She has not regained any of her weight, but her "lifts" have started sagging very noticeably 3 years later.  I am not going to go through the expense and pain for a temporary look.  I wish the best to all who have had it or will have it, but remember, that with age, gravity will take its toll, no matter what.  I am just happy to be healthy. Sorry - I will now step off my soapbox...:-)
