I can never let my weight loss guard down, can you?
I am not new to wl. I am sure none of you are either. I am at goal weight with the lapband and very, very thankful for this. I sure hate it though when people who have never battled obesity keep telling me that they are sure I will never be fat again because they are sure I have learned my wl (eating/food) lessons. I laugh at this idea every time I hear this. I am a food addict and always will be. If I don't keep constan****ch over what I eat, I will regain this weight. I do know more than ever how to eat right and I do excercise, but I am still that addict, looking to eat that cookie without consequences. If one cookie is ok, how about 2, or the whole box? I don't know if I will ever over come this attitude, I hope so, but think I will always need to stay on guard. How about you? Have you beaten your food demons for good? If so, how have you done it? Please share.
HEY KB,
BOY DO I TO WELL KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT LETTING YOUR GUARD DOWN. I AM A FOR REAL FOOD ADDICT AND THAT AINT NEVER GONNA GO AWAY. I DONT CARE HOW FAR I GET IN WLS THE REASON FOR IT ALL WAS THE OUT OF CONTROL PART OF FOOD. I AM NOT GONNA LIE ,,,, STILL TO THIS DAY I THINK ALOT ABOUT FOOD BUT IT HAS CHANGED IN ALL DIRECTIONS. I NO LONGER THINK ABOUT THAT ALL MIGHTY FATTY FOOD .. ITS THE CAN I EAT THIS OR THAT, HOW MUCH SUGAR IS IN THAT AND THINGS LIKE THAT. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE AND I AM THANKFUL EACH AND EVERY DAY AND NEVER WANT TO GO BACK TO MY OLD WAYS. I AM VERY STRICT ON MYSELF BUT THEN I HAVE TO BE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE TYPE TO BE ABLE TO EAT A LIL OF SOMETHING AND STOP. SO IN MY WORLD ITS NOT TO HAVE IT AT ALL IF IS MY TRIGGER FOODS.... GREAT POST...

Karma....What would life be without it? 250lbs gone! 410/160... Life's sweet!

No kidding. I agree totally with the, "one cookie is good but two are better" mentality. I live it, even now, 4 years after surgery. I had RNY and even with the built in behavior modification I have done things that I knew would lead me to lay on a tile floor next to a toilet and be glad that tile was cool. Once, about a year ago, during an especially stressfull weekend (aka MOM) I thanked the powers that be for the coolness of tile about 4 times IN THE SAME DAY!!!!
Do I have more control since surgery? Yes, I do.(most days anyway) I also learned to respect myself (ahem-most days) and when the scale moves 5 lbs in either direction I take IMMEDIATE action. I don't think I will ever be free of my food addiction, nor do I think it is not possible for me to gain a substantial ammount of weight if I don'****ch myself. But I have a good support system, and I am doing better and I can only live in this moment right now. (sounds sort of Dr. Phil-ish huh?) But it does work for me. One day (sometimes one minute) at a time.

I hop on the scale every day to see where I am at. I spent years avoiding the scale and kept getting fatter and fatter. Even if this is a bit compulsive, I have to stay "in touch" with my eating and weight or I fear I can blow it. I don't want to spend the rest of my life as the fat girl. I am beginning to really feel like a thin girl and enjoy it.
My biggest problem is thinking about what fod I have in the house, and seeming to want to taste it ALL in one day! I don't know why I can't just realise that I can have variety every day and change the menu the following day, I don't have to eat it all at once. I think of food when I'm not hungry, and have to asess wether or not I am hungry, and if I actually have room for something else.
Does anybody eat, and then find themselves thinking of what else they can eat? Like sweets or just more of the meal? I'll be full and still think about the food.
This is the hardest thing to overcome. I seem to be through at 20 pounds above my goal. So now my attention is on not gaining back. I weigh every single day, and if I see 1 pound up, I change my diet for a few days. I can get that pound off, but there it seems to stop. Sometimes I wonder if there is some way to assure no weight gain besides thinking about it constantly, but I haven't found it yet.
