Hi Carly!

Don't let the psych evaluation spook you.....   You can probably expect LOTS of questions....  about your childhood, your family, your friends, your lifestyle, your current support group (those that are traveling your weight loss journey with you), your educational background about the surgery and whether or not your are realistic about your responsibilities following your surgery.  Your dr. may give you some written tests - again, lots of questions! My psych dr. told me up front that he was not there to "approve" me for surgery, but to help determine if I was emotionally ready for the ride.  He said that, if necessary, he would encourage additional visits beyond the inital consult.  Guess the additional visits weren't necessary, because I didn't need to go back. The only advice I have is to relax, answer the questions honestly and truthfully (they can tell when you are lying, you know!) and take your time.  In the long-run, you will be amazed at the information the dr. retains about you!  It's actually very fascinating! Good luck! Hugs! Kristi

I had mine last Friday.  It was a piece of cake.  Just be yourself and remember that he is just a person.  You will  be fine.  Report back after.

My psych evaluation took about 10 minutes and was a breeze.  No in depth questions; just why I wanted the surgery.  It was very easy.  Don't worry. Linda

I didn't have to do one pre-op, but I started seeing a counselor recently and really am amazed at some of the things my therapist points out about me and some of the connections I've been able to make, etc.  So I wouldn't worry about it - you may learn a few things about yourself along the way!
