Hello, My name is Lisa, I had RNY 9/04.  I am definitely always reading the boards, however, I usually am not talking.  I wanted to know if the Quaker Instant Oatmeal (weight control brand) in maple brown sugar is something beneficial to eat.  It tastes wonderful!!!! It has 1 gram of sugar, however , the total carb contents is 29 grams and their is 7 grams of protein. Should I eliminate this from my diet if I am still in the process of trying to lose ?   Help!!!!

Hi Lisa! I eat it occasionally, but I like the banana bread flavor. I'm in maitenance mode now and I haven't seen any problems with eating it or any weight gain. I like the fact that its low in sugar and offers some protein.

Hello- my nutrionist suggested the oatmeal to me, she said not to eat it everyday but it is fine a few times a week.  If you add milk instead of water, you get a few extra grams of protien. Sometimes  I eat only a half  package then top it with sliced banana-  Ymmmmm!

Thanks for the great idea.  I will definitely try it.  Should I use low fat milk or is the 2% ok?

Lisa, I eat either the maple brown sugar or the banana flavor of this nearly every morn.  I use a mixture of sk. milk & water and add a small handful of blueberries and a very small handful of chopped almonds.  Sometimes, I also add about 1/2 scoop of protein powder (either strawberry or choc).  (Since I like "sweet," I also add a little Splenda.)  I eat it pretty "stiff" in consistency.  I absolutely love it.  It's a very hardy breakfast for me about 7 a.m., and it keeps me satisfied until I eat at noon.  I do often eat a small mid-morn. snack of some kind, but many times I'm fine if I miss it, as long as I'm getting in enough to drink all morn. Jo

Always,
Jo

Hi, Lisa!  I like it as well.  I prefer to add something to it because if I don't I can eat two whole packages.  So I add nuts and/or fruit to it and it is pretty satisfying, some protein, and healthy! I had my RNY 5/5/05 and am maintaining a 190 pound loss (from my highest, 160 from surgery). Michelle

I love the banana bread one.  In fact everybody in my office just dies when I eat it so now it's one of the "staples" in the cupboard!  go figure that one out.  I only eat it maybe once SOMETIMES 2x per week.  It's delish!  Oh and I make it with milk.

Hi, I eat instant oatmeal (weight control or lower sugar) either every day or every other day.  YUM.  I add a bit of Splenda, and sometimes a bit of granola mix.  I love what someone's said about adding either a bit of banana and/or blueberries ... I'm going to try that next time! -Carol
