Water-Yeah,It's that Important

We all have had it drilled into our heads the importance of it, but until you flunk at it once, it really doesn't sink in. I went riding on my husbands motorcycle just yesterday, oh it was glorious, warm, sunny, and we rode for off and on 3 hrs. I of course only had coffee and no breakfast when we got off for a light lunch.  During that time I only had a glass of tea.  When we started back home, I felt lightheaded like I was going to faint.  Got home drank *some* more water and got into the shower, and had a weak spell.  While in the shower, my husband has to bring me a teaspoon of p-nut butter because I was so shakey I could not shave my legs....which was odd for me to want to shave them when I AM ABOUT TO FAINT---finally I just gave up, drank more water and laid down for about an hour nap.  I felt bad the rest of the evening but continued to re-hydrate myself.  I will NOT DO THAT AGAIN...no matter where I am or how forgetful I tend to be, its not worth the heartache afterward!!

Melaine, it appears you had 2 things going on.....not enough water and a about of hypoglycemia from not eating.  The shakey, lightheadness is also a sign of low blood suger and since you hadn't eaten anything all day, it is a big possibility your surgar did drop low. Hope you feel better today, thanks for the reminder to drink our liquids and not skip meals. Dana

Your right cajungirl and I had about 2 more bouts of it...I have been nibbling on rice pudding for the past 2 days and that is a big no no..I have not done refined sugar since my surgery and it definitely put me in my place....its one of the major reasons I chose rny,,,,it holds me accountable!!!!!

I'm so glad you are enjoying your  new surroundings.  My sweetie lives in Hudson by the way!!!   That kind of happened to me about 4 months ago.  He was down for the weekend and my eating, drinking, sleeping schedule was way off.  Saturday morning, well noon, when we finally got up, my first thought was - I need to get going on my water!!!  So I no sooner started drinking, and we were standing out by my staircase, and I suddenly fainted!  If he wouldn't have been there I may have hit my head when I went down!  I felt funky for a while till I drank a whole water bottle, then by the time I finished the 2nd one I felt much better!  It's scarry how quickly we can dehydrate!! Chalk it up to a learning experience, which it seems you are doing since you said you'd never do that again!!!  I'm glad you are ok!  Enjoy the weather.  This is the best time of the year for Fla in my opinion.  Once summer hits it's so hot out some days you can't really do anything outside unless you are in the water!  Enjoy!!!  Take care.  By the way, next time I go up that way to visit him, if time permits, I'll try to get by to meet you!!!  Have a good, hydrated, weekend LOL!!! Jeanne

Much  love  from Georgia!!

Hey there! I too enjoy riding with the hubby and have found that the best way to combat dehydration was to take along a camelback which made it possible to drink whenever I wanted or needed to.  I also have reactive hypoglycemia and take along some nuts to snack on. Have fun riding!!! Hugs, Trudi
