BACON COVERED SHRIMP: DON'T DO IT!
Hi all,
A word of warning:
I work at a restaurant for a second job. Our choices, per Chef, were either bacon wrapped pork or bacon wrapped shrimp, or rather, large prawns, that were to be grilled. I chose the prawns, more protein, right? Also some herb/cheese polenta, yummy!!!
Yeah, I took 2 bites and about 10 minutes later, felt extreme discomfort. I stopped eating. By later that night, I knew i had a blockage. It felt tlike I got rammed with a pole in the breastbone!!
I was up all night with the pain, and it just got worse and worse. I also felt really sick,. I tried to make myself get it back up to no avail. Finally at 3:30AM I called my surgeons office. All I was told was to go to ER and that they will have to perform surgery. I stayed home.
I called surgeon and pcp at 8 am and had to leave msgs for both.
By 1130 am I felt better, and I realized the pain was semi-gone, and it did not feel stuck anymore. Finally at 530 pm my surgeons office called me and made me adhere to a soft diet: cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese and protein shakes. All I had eaten at this point was 1 string cheese. And LOTS of Mylanta.
Anyway, I am still in pain 3 days later. She said it will take a few weeks to shrink back to size.
So if anyone offers you bacon wrapped anything, make sure you can chew it to nothing so this does not happen to you!
I, in my 2 yrs post op-ness, have NEVER experienced that, and I never want to again.
Have a great day!
Painfully yours,
Laura
I'm so sorry you were in so much pain. I'm 2yrs post op myself but I some how end up in pain every now and then. I've chalked it up to "this is normal for me now" It's never one particular thing. It can strike at any time. I can go for months and it not happen or it happens 2-3times in a week. The pain doubles me over and if I lay down and if I'm lucky enough to go to sleep it usually is gone or almost gone by the time I wake up. Hope you don't experience this again.
Hugs,
Lisa
