I hate my new body
I am also post op, and one thing no one tells you is .....AFTER WLS...one will have to have PS is one ones to look their best. With all the skin its does look a mess. Yes, we are in smaller sizes but our bodies look terrible outside of clothes. It's another kind of prison because now....one is small but can't wear shorts or go to the beach.
I tell people the truth after WLS plan for PS, or you will not be totally happy. I am scheduled to have a BR next Friday and I plan to do more if I can get loans to cover it. My BR will be paid by my insurance and I'm see what else they can pay...but....PS is not an option for me.
Dear Linda,
I said those same words and felt that way also.
When I went for my plastic surgery consult I remember my surgeon saying how he felt so bad hearing that from so many GB patients. So we must all pretty much go through that thought process.
If you can have plastics I highly recommend it. It made all the difference in the word to me. It was the (no pun intended) icing on the cake.
I now feel "normal". Clothes fit well and I am so happy with my results.
If PS is not an option, then you need to find a way to be OK with it. I am not sure how. I knew from the beginning I would need PS and was lucky enough to be able to borrow the funds to do it.
Wish you much happiness.

I'm right there with you. Just when I'd gotten OK with being a BBW, I become a "what"? FBW - Flabby Beautiful Woman? I was all set for PS until I got really sick with anemia. Now I'm working on loving my flaps of skin, rather than risk anything could put me out of work for over a month. I wish I had words of wisdom, but the more time goes by with my tummy that hangs almost to my knees, the less it bothers me.

Torrey,
Your words may be the best of all "the more time goes by . . . . the less it bothers me." Thanks; I hope that works for me as well.
I am also glad there was someone else who had accepted the BBW and then felt kinda lost. It's weird; under some cir****tances (BMI, society) I'm still fat, but for the BBW world, I'm not fat. Where do I fit??
I just had my first plastic surgery--breast reduction and arm lift. I still have many body parts that are, shall we say, unattractive? Even with the arm lift, I will have flabby arms and elbows. But consdering where I started, it is a vast improvement. And going from an extremely large chest to even a C cup is going to require some adjustment.
I say that to remind you that even with plastic surgery you will most likely never have the dream body seen in magazines and televison. (Even they don't have those bodies!) I am a middle aged woman who at one time weighed almost 400 pounds. That fact--and how my body shows it--isn't going to change. Just like I will get wrinkles regardless of the skin creams I lather on.
You might want to look into a body image workshop/self help book. So much of this is a head thing. I've seen exercises where you mentally go over your body and thank the body parts for the functions they accomplish--so you focus on the positives rather than the negatives as well as moving away from form to function.
I'm finding that a lot of the issues I deal and how much of a challenge they present are really linked to my own sense of self. As I have grown into accepting me as a person of mind, spirit, and body, I find it easier to accept my limitations. Life is simply too good to worry about a lot of what I used to worry about.
Best of luck,
Sally
