Losing Weight While Sick??

Hi all!! Quick question here.....  is it normal not to lose weight while you are sick with a common cold or sinus infection? I have been diligent abou****ching what I eat, upping my protein and water consumption and even exercising during this two week 'bout that I have had with a cold that is now developing in to a sinus infection.  During all this time, my scale has not BUDGED.   Needless to say, I am frustrated, but when I stop and think about it, I suppose that it would make sense that my body would disregard the need for weight loss in favor of "healing" the part of me that is sick, yes?    Sounds logical to me, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this??  I've often heard of people that have lost quite a few pounds during an illness (especially a stomach flu, etc.), but this certainly hasn't been the case with me! Anyone have a similar story?  It would make me feel better!!! Hugs! Kristi

Hi Kristi!!  I know when I have a cold or sinus infection and I'm taking antihistimines, they make me retain water BIG TIME! So maybe it's the medication you're on. Anything thats not "normal" for your body, tells your body to hang onto water or fat or both, cause its going into getting healthy mode, fighting off your infection. Reserving your strength to get better, rather than using all that energy into dropping pounds.   I think when people drop weight when they're sick, its when they are sick with a stomach flu, or something else besides a cold that requires cold medication like antihistimines. Antihistimine cold meds, dry you out like crazy and make you retain a lot of water.  I wouldn't worry about it. Your body is resting and getting better. I go thru this all the time, cause I take allergy meds a lot. ( major hay fever!)  Hope this helps! Lyn

thank you for posting the info about antihistimines.  I too have been taking Liquid Dayquil for the past week to help with sinus headache and pressure.  I have been following my program and not doing anything different and I got on the scale this morning and have gained 5 pounds.  I almost cried......I was really depressed, but now this makes sense....Thank you for the info and brightening my day.....
