ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Ok first of all, I know alcohol is high and calories and not good for us, but I do have a question. I am almost 2 yrs post op, down 150lbs and lovin life. My husband and I are going on a cruise with some friends and my question to you all, since I rarely drink is, does anyone know if any sugarfree drinks that I could ask for on my trip., I am clueless. I thought maybe diet coke and rum, but dont really want to do that very much. Please give any thoughts on this matter, thanks so much
I'd email Dolly that works for bariatric eating and she has some drink mixes you can pack on your trip. You can also nurse a glass of wine and alternate with water with a splash of lemon. I sometimes opt for a light beer and sip on it...I have never been much of a drinker but this is my take on it....fun fun with the cruise
I've had a few drinks from my surgery in 4/05. I wouldn't recommend anythig carbonated. Drink a good glass of wine, or maybe a ****tail, but srink ****tails very, VERY slowly. I didn't realize this the first time I had a ****tail and was tipsy in about 10 minutes.
It's like with everything else, enjoy, but in moderation.
I didn't drin****il a couple weeks before my one year anniversary (it was my birthday, dang it, and I wanted a gin and tonic). I did not have any problems with that, or the kahlua and decaf coffee that I had with a little bit of dessert. I don't drink a lot because of the calories, but I've had margaritas, tequila sunrises, and gin & tonic without any problems. I also don't dump unless I have a LOT of sugar, so the sugar in the margarita and the tequila sunrise did not bother me. Enjoy the cruise - I did my first cruise last year and it was a blast. Can't wait until I can afford to do another one! Kellie
Hi!
I had a really good drink that I now make at home on those rare occasions when I want a drink.
I had a diet root beer with vanilla vodka, and it tasted like a root beer float! It is so good!!
My regular drinks are Spicy Bloody Mary's. Not much sugar, and as long as I order it in a highball glass, it does not dilute too bad. Plus you get celery and olives!
Have a great time on the cruise!

Us 'Lap-Banders' don't have tehe same 'sugar-dumping' problems RNY have, but alcohol does increase my appetite. I went to an all-inclusive (booze too) resort In Jan and had a great time. Then important thing I noticed, drink slowly!!! I used to be able to drink myself under the table and now I can't handle 2 drinks - goes straight to my head, if I drink too fast it all comes back up. I had to be careful because I wanted to eat after I had been drinking.
Have fun is the important thing, you may find that you'll have more fun watching those around you (not your friends of course) and what they do when they drink too much. All this while you're drinking in moderation.

Hi,
If I am going to drink, I love to have a kettle one vodka, it is only 60 calories, and low in sugar, and I mix it with the Tropicana Sugar Free Lemonade, it is awesome, or you can take along the low sugar cranberry, and then it is a few more calories, but it is good to, actually even a regular Cosmopolitian Martini is not much sugar because they do not use much juice in a Martini, you can even get a lemon drop, and ask for fresh squezzed lemon juice instead od the sugary juice.
Just some suggestions
Good Luck
Wendy
Hi, Amber! I wouldn't worry too much about the sugar content of the drinks, unless you dump easily. I went on a cruise last January (2006) when I was a little over 2 years out. I enjoyed mixed drinks, wine, and beer with no problems. With all the "cruise" eating and drinking I did, I still did not gain weight while on the cruise. I guess we did enough walking and other activities to counteract the vacation-style eating. I'm not a big drinker, but I just try to be careful to eat a little something while doing so, and GO SLOW. If you drink your drinks slowly enough and combine it with some type of little snack, I think you'll be fine, unless as I mentioned before, you dump easily. Then that could be a problem. Have a great time on your cruise. Mine was my first and only, and I hope to do another some day. It was a lot of fun! Enjoy!!!!

I dump pretty easily on sugar and fat, so I don't drink anything "sugary", but I do enjoy a glass of wine occasionally. I will tell you, 1/2 glass of wine and I am flat out drunk if I drink it too fast. If you want to get drunk, drink it somewhat quickly, otherwise drink it slowly - very slowly!
Have fun, I'm jealous!
