Not 40-50#...more like 25#.
So, here's what I did...
1. Wrote everything down. Everything that passed my lips was counted with regard to calories. I know a lot of people use fitday...I don't, paper is always accessible, and I found that I have to write immediately or I forget what I ate. My weight loss calorie amount is 1400, I will gain if I eat over 1800 calories.
2. Weighed and measured everything. Kind of difficult when eating out, so my suggestion is to really know what portions look like before guessing when outside the house.
3. Planned all meals. I knew the night before what I was going to eat the next day, and had the food on hand.
4. Paid attention to my hunger level (1 not hungry to 5 starving) and also recorded these.
5. Ate just about every 2 hours. Snacks were no more than 100 calories.
6. Always ate sitting down and without any other activity. In other words, paid attention to the activity of eating vs. reading the paper, watching TV, driving...
7. Minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day...sweat inducing, heart pumping exercise.
8. Recognized that I was responsible for both successes and challenges. In other words, situations, people, emotions could not derail me...this was about me, reaching my goals and achieving the unthinkable.
9. Made a commitment to success every minute of every day...and still do today.
10. Came to the conclusion that doing all the above and living my life like a normal person is far easier than experimenting with food, blowing off behaviors, and letting outside forces control me.
You can do this, I did while entering my 4th year post op. Into my 6th now, still successful, still practicing all of above every day.
