Anyone else who didn't lose 100 lbs in their first yr?
hi, i know how you are feeling. my surgery was june '05 and i've lost only 85 pounds. i too am at the 50 years of age group and weighed 273. i never felt as i have lost the weight others have. i lost only 14 pounds the first 2 weeks. having gone from 6 cans of pepsi a day to drinking protein and water i was shocked and disappointed. my weight loss has never been like most people i read about or talk to. i don't have any suggestions but i'm there for you because i'm in the same boat.

Exercise wasn't necessary?! Now really, what weight loss program doesn't emphasize the importance of exercise? Especially with your problems, you NEED to do some form of exercise, have you thought abou****er aerobics? I was 49 when I had my surgery, lost 107 by 1 year out (started at 273) and it took me 19 months to reach goal. But I perservered thru the stalls, tried to make the most of that first year and after. I also have a history of water retention and I have an underactive thyroid and take medication for that as well. Do not use that as an excuse. Take responsibility, commit to this plan and that includes getting your butt out there an exercise. Even though you are over a year out doesn't mean that you still can't make it to goal, it's just going to be harder now, but you can do it if you really want to.
It took me 3 years to lose 100 lbs and it was a lot of discipline to get where I am. The surgery is a tool. I do hit quite a few plateaus. At least I am not gaing weight like before surgery. I feel so much better than I did pre op. I am not able to exercise due to an injury from an auto accident that I had post op. I do look for every excuse to run upstairs and must run upstairs at least 25 times per day. I park my car far from the grocery store and walk. I take the long way all the time. I lost weight very slow but at least its lost!!!!!! yah ...Just be patient and follow all the rules and dont get discouraged. " think positive" Moira
I never made it to 100lbs from wl surgery. I stopped at 213-218lbs, my surgery weight was 285lbs. I have about 50-60lbs to lose. I'll be 45 this Friday and I had surgery on 06/22/05. Don't know what made me slower, I know my metabolism has always been slow, despite of my 30 minutes walks 4 days a week. I was put on a diuretic since I tend to retain water, despite of my 80-oz of water. Lately, I'm drinking 90-oz of water and no tea.
