Still having chronic diarhea

Does anyone still have problems with diarhea? My name is Cindy and I am 1 1/2 yrs. post-op. I had to have my gallbladder out last July. My surgeon did exploratory surgery at that time and found a hernia, a leak, and a hole. Since then, the diarhea has gotten alot worse. The drs. have run tests but can't seem to find anything wrong. When I eat, or take my meds, within minutes I am running to the bathroom. It's very frustrating when you are out and about and have to find a bathroom at every store you visit. I can eat mostly anything (except most meats, breads, pasta, and raw vegetables) but still throw up once in awhile. I am scheduled for a tummy tuck and ventral hernia repair on Feb. 28th.

Cindy, There is prescription meds they can give you to slow your GI tract down. You might want to speak to your surgeon about that. Feel better soon, MOM

Cindy, I am alittle over 1 1/2 years out, surgery in June 05. And I still get diarehea all the time also. I just thought it was me. I have never had it check out. I know most people suffer from constipation and I have the exact oposite. I don't go with in minutes but it ain't to far later I need to use the bathroom. I don't have any suggestions for you but I like the onme mentioned earlier. I will talk to my pcp. Tina

Cindy, Many times people with RNY or DS surgery get overgrowth of bacteria in the bowel. The treatment is antibiotics. Many people use peppermint preparation from a health food store to keep the overgrowth from returning. If you have really gross smelly stools, and diarrhea every day, ask for a stool sample evaluation and antibiotics in the meantime.

Cindy, I still have the same issues as you. I have been seeing a Digestive disease doctor for over a year and nothing has helped. I did have the overgrowth of bad bacteria in my intestines and did a round of antibiodics....took 3 different meds before I could keep one in.....I also have been scoped.....xray'd.....upper gi....lower gi.....you name it I have had it. They have not been able to "fix" the problem. I have been on about 4 different kinds of meds....including one that I had to inject 3 times a day.....that one made me throw up.....so....good luck....I think it is just my system and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I would rather be "loose as a goose" than be constipated! Sue 325/130 goal/currently 124

Have you had a colonoscopy to check for colitis? That's what my problem was. I wish you the best. Loris

I have been going to a GI specialist for several months. Been through so many tests. I am willing to live with it. It's better than being constipated. I have tried many different meds. Zelnorm makes it even worse. Immodium doesn't help. Questran makes me vomit. Oh well, just means you make sure you know where the bathroom is. Sometimes it's comical, because my kids just expect that mom usually will have to make a pitstop wherever she goes.

I had my RNY in December of 2005. My gallbladder was taken out a year before in November of 2004. For 8-10 months after the gallbladder removal, I was like you having diarrhea as soon as I ate. I too had to always know where a ladies' room was and had to eat in at work for the same reason. My gastroenterologist told me at the time that some people did experience this and I should give my body time to get used to not having a gallbladder. And you know -- it did clear up. Then, I had the RNY and had lots of trouble with constipation and now I take a daily laxative. How do you like that? Anyway, hope this helps. Ask your gastro doctor if he/she thinks this will clear up with time. I hope so. Good luck. How are you doing with your post-op maintenance, etc., besides this?

Cindy, Sorry about your problems. I seem to have the opposite problem. I have constant stomach aches due to constipation! Best of luck in finding a solution. JudyAnne (whothinksyoureallyneedtochangeyourprofilepicture!!)
