hungry at night
I am 3 years post WLS. In the beginning it was great. i didn't have the constant nagging feeling that i wanted to eat something. i also stayed full until the next meal. Now i don't know what has happened. From the time i wake up until the time i go to bed i constantly think about food. It's horrible. I don't know why and i can't stop thinking about it. I can eat something and then as soon as i'm done i'm thinking about the next thing i can eat at the next meal. Has anyone tried hypnosis or anything like that to stop thinking of food? Also, i wake up in the middle of the night now and i'm starving. i have to eat something to be able to go back to sleep. Another thing is that after i eat it's not too long after that that i'm hungry again. What is wrong with me???
I'd appreciate any advise anyone has.
I have the same problem. The surgery "fixed" our stomachs, not our brains. I battle every single day to follow the rules at almost 4 years out. Also, I would suspect that you are eating too many carbs and not enough protein. You have to have the protein to stay full and not feel hungry. I would seriously suggest logging onto fitday or some other site and keeping track of what you are truly eating each day. Do this for a week or so and I bet you get a bigger picture.
Carbs will make you hungry and crave more.
Good luck

Well no wonder, Girl!! You are not eating nearly enough calories. Your carbs and protein are awesome, but you really need to get your cals up to about 1000. Not only will you not be starving. (literally) you will get your metabolism going again. Add some fruit, veggies or even some good carbs to your diet.
Take care

I felt like I was reading my own mind when I read your post. I struggle in a big way. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will struggle for the rest of my life. I have always been a night eater and that has never changed. I reserve many of my low calorie snacks for night time. I keep all snacks to 200 calories or less. I work out like a maniac and I try to fill my time with other activities.
I do not have the magic answer as I do not believe there is one. Everyone needs to find the tricks that work for them. It is trickery too. I find that practice and not giving up no matter what helps. Even when I fall off the wagon I wake up with the best intentions. Sometimes it works and others it does not. That is the reality though. I just keep trying. I keep telling myself that if can I quit smoking, I can do this too.
Just don't give up.

Dear Cherie,
I can't help with the hypnosis--haven't tried it--but I have always been one to need something in my stomach before bed. Otherwise I wake up in the middle of the night hungry. I've found that eating some yogurt or even drinking a glass of milk right before bed gets me through the night. To keep the full feeling, you might go with some kind of dense protein.
I've always been like this, so just had to find a way to deal with it.
Best of luck,
Sally
