Banding of a Gastric Patient
Hi Tracy,
I had bypass in 2001 and unfortunately I started gaining weight after about 3 years.I went to my surgeon for a revision and he suggested a lapband on the pouch due to the fact a bypass revision is more complicated and dangerous than the first bypass. I had my lapband in October 2006 and have lost 40lbs. It is different than bypass, but the key as always is you have to follow the rules. Good luck to you.
Hey Diana - can you provide more info on this. How much weight had you gained back after 3 years that made you a candidate for a band on your pouch. I have been thiking about this myself, but not sure.
I am 3 yrs and 8 months out and have gained about 28 pounds from my lowest in March 2005. Struggling here.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

I had gained about 40lbs. I also felt like it wouldn't stop if I didn't get something done. Hence my visit to the surgeon. His name is Alexander Villares and is an expert on revion of RNY. I had a test that showed the opening to my stomach (the stoma) was stretched. I believe that was the main thing that made me a "Candidate". Also, his nurse Nicole is great at getting insurnace approvals. My insurance is TriCare and they do not pay for lapband, but she got mine covered.
I think a stretched stoma is more common then a stretched stomach and my previous surgeon who did the initial surgery did not sew the stoma small enough, which i guess is common also.
Good luck to you.
Hello Marcy and Tracy,
I am four years out and have encountered the same problem in regard to weight gain. I was also considering a revision and going with the lap band. I have gained back about 60 lbs already and I scares me silly, I have also noticed an increase in my food intake and my tolerances and hunger. Let me know what you have found out about the revision from RNY to Lap.
Much thanks,
Heather
Hi Tracy. Nice to see you again. I have been stuggling with weight gain also. I just had an endoscopy done last Thursday. The doctor told me my pouch is 2 1/2 times what it should be. I couldn't understand why I was gaining so much. I knew I was able to eat more at one time, but did not feel I was overeating. I thought I was making wise choices. Not dieting but not gorging myself with bad foods. He said he did not think it was anything I have done. He said it was the tissue. I know the surgeon who did my surgery had said they make the pouch out of the part of the stomach that doesn't stretch. I Guess he used the wrong part on me. I am very sad about this but don't think I want to risk going through another surgery. I can't help but wonder why so many people are having the same problems. I just wanted to say hi, and I wish you luck finding the information you are looking for. Deb
at least we know were not alone out there.
I am 4 years out today, also my sister in law and a good friend are all going through the same thing.
we hit the 3 year mark with no problem then all of a sudden started gains.
I have gained about 20 pounds from my lowest in the last 6 months
julie, about 35 and Trish also about 30
so talking to each other we have been pretty good on what we eat.
I only had a soda once in a while, never was hooked on them.
am finding myself hungry all the time, all hours of the day and night.
am scared to death that my 150 pounds will keep going back up to the full pre surgery weight.......help
what do I need to ask the surgeon for as far as tests??
thanks
Ditto ditto ditto..
