I have issue now, that I cannot seem to break and it's not doing me no good, I am 2 years post op and I gained 10 pounds my husband stated that it the" Winter Fat" I am between jobs so am at home now and I find my self snacking on the bad foods, such as chips or 100 calorie cookies..yes i drink soda only diet. But what really get me is I still eat off a saucer and I cute up my meats up small, but I do drink when I eat because my mouth is so dry, some days I cannot stand to look at food, then some days I feel like i can a regular size burger, but removed the top bun. also I find my self waking up at night "raiding " the fridge.. such as lunch meat and cheese, or eating the cold food from dinner, at bite of cold corn or a bite of rice, and bite of cold meat.. any advice please Ruschell

Hi Ruschell, It sounds like you already recognize where you are faltering: snacking on baddies, drinking sodas (even diet), drinking with meals, eating at night etc. I can only suggest that you go back to basics. Increase water, supplement the protein (that should help with the snacking), stop snacking, ditch the sodas, and don't drink with meals. You can do it. I know that you don't want to continue on this path. We worked hard enough getting the weight off. Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Carol, Thank you so much, and yes I will change my bad eating habits...it will be hard to ditch the diet sodas, and yes I don't want to gain any more weight. What can I eat to stay fuller longer, I know am not getting enough protein in, and thank you for the great support...I needed that big time!! Ruschell

I am GUILTY as charged....I am fine until after dinner then it's almost a compulsive eat-eat-eat! I know it is a problem I have so I do several things: Drink water with splenda and True-Lemon in it....(it's wonderful!) Have a warm cup of S/F Hot chocolate Decaf Coffee or Tea.. S/F Jello or S/F Jello Pudding 1 oz of Peanuts S/F popsicle a hot bath Brush my teeth paint my nails, Find something to do OTHER than eat..... In the winter it's hard ot go out and work in the yard, but Spring is coming soon!! You might also "google" Late night eating--apparently it's common (?) For me the trick is to do whatever I can to NOT eat..especially the "mindless type".. It's a constant battle....But I am a warrier!!

Hi Krudnick, Thank you so much!! I feel much better that I thought I was the only one with this bad habit. I did good last night drunk two full glasses of water and ate a apple, that did tie me over until breakfast. I just know it will be hard..but am willing to give it my best!! Best, Ruschell

Hi Ruschell. I used to be a diet soda drinker, but haven't gone back to it since surgery. I have read alot about the fact that diet soda can trigger serious cravings for other things, so maybe thats playing a part in all of this. Also, drinking and eating at the same time doesn't work well for "us"~I know you already know this, but it washes the food out more quickly causing you to be hungry faster. You can gain control of this!! Good Luck!!! Tracy B 328/150 5'9"

Ruschell, It "MIGHT" just be coincidence, but I don't think so--just about the time I started drinking diet cola again (about 20 mo. post-op), I also started grazing more, making bad carb choices, etc. What do I have to show for it?--20 lbs. re-gain, which I am just now getting dead serious about losing. If I don't, I'm sunk, as none of my spring/summer clothes will fit. We know exactly what we need to do, but geez, it's hard to RE-MOTIVATE ourselves, isn't it? We can do this--we've been through so much! Good luck! Jo

Jo: Do you think the diet soda thing also applies to diet teas? I tend to think it might, since they are usually sweetened with aspartame. Thanks. Carlita

Hmmm, I'm not sure . . . never have heard that. I'm not a tea or coffee drinker, so I never pay attention to anything about them. I've just heard so many people who are proponents of drinking tea, that I'm thinking maybe that's in a different category. (I hate to be so dense, but I thought tea in general was non-caloric . . . but I guess you are probably talking about flavored teas, which probably have calories, thus the "diet" ones.) This might be a good question to start a new thread about--there's gotta be a "tea expert" out there! Jo
