Has anyone had blackouts due to low blood sugar. My daughter had WLS 8-28-06 and has loss 100 pounds in only 5 months . She's been light headed a lot and had a seizure on the 3rd. No previous history of this. She had her 2nd seizure a couple of days ago while wearing a heart monitor.Every time they take her blood sugar the levels are ok.

It may actually not be low Blood Sugar but Low Blood Pressure. I passed out twice when I was about a year out. I also was thinking the Blood sugars must be low, but it was my blood pressure instead. Is she eating enough? Taking her supplements? This is pretty serious stuff and I really hope she can get some answers from her doctor.

Thanks a lot for your input. The doctor has her hooked up to a heart monitor for 30 days. Hopefully that tells them something. She says she's getting everything in. She's drinking two protein drinks daily along with four small meals.

I too suffered from lightheadedness and severe dizzyness and we finally discovered after many many many many tests that it was low blood pressure. I'm not sure if that will cause the seziures as well but it would definatly be worth looking into. I also found that it tended to hit me more in the mornings than any other time of day. Never really sure why that was but finally I'm 3 years out and the occurances are much more rare. Keep your head up and all will be fine eventually. Good Luck Heather

Hi Heather, My daughter also has had low blood pressure a couple of times since WLS. What did you do to control that? Rita

Low blood sugar, low blood pressure, salt intake too low, dehydration. I have experienced all those things and they all caused lightheadedness, dizzyness and passing out. A salty snack every day helps me maintain my salt and helps my blood pressure. Eating 6 times a day helps me maintian my blood sugars. As for seizures.... that could be something totally different. I hope they look a bit deeper than her blood sugar to find out what is going on. If it is intake/diet related then a few small adjustments go a long way in helping. Best wishes to your daughter. Hi Everyone, Thanks for the advice. I am Rita's daughter, who has been having all these issues. They have done oh sooo many blood test on me. They did a CT which showed I was having a seizure. I've had an EEg done which didnt show anything. I am now wearing a heart monitor, which recorded some strange activity the other day when I passed out. my heart rate went from in the 70's to the low 50's to spiking up to 115 all in the matter of like 10 secs. this was all recorded at the time I passed out. I still have to go for an MRI of my brain on Feb 5, so we will see how that goes. I have had issues with my blood pressure being messed up a couple of times at my post op appt. 1 time if was 99/85. That made them very nervous. My doctors just dont seem to have a clue as to what is causing this. So they have set me up to have jsut about every test I can think of. The worst part is my husband is in the navy, stationed aboard a ship and they are deployed to the middle east right now. So I am passing out cold all the time and no one is here but me and my 3 kids (10,8 and 20mths). Any suggestions from anyone would help.

Hi ... I have been having bouts with hypoglycemia. On August 20th, I had a seizure, and the paramedics tested my blood sugar at 23 (I had another incident where I passed out in May) ... paramedics in Dallas did not take my blood sugar level, but my docs here seem to think that may have been a seizure too). I did a glucose tolerance test, and it came back at 36. Just last week it dipped to the low 40's. I've had the EEG, stress test, yadda yadda yadda (some results were a little "off") ... but I've been seeing the endocrinologist about the hypoglycemia. (By the way, my blood pressure is typically 110/70 or less ... last week at the endo's office it was 98/60.) Go back some posts, we've had some previous conversations about this that you might find useful. Good luck ... keep us posted! Karyn

Hi Karyn Thanks so much for the helpful advice. My daughter and I looked back at the posts from January 15th and found the additional posts. Heather has found many familarities with the members that have posted their medical issues. She is going thru a series of tests now to rule out a heart condition . Talking to everyone on this website has given us hope that this may be related to blood sugar and or blood pressure and may be eventually controlled thru diet. In the meantime she is eating six small meals a day, making sure to get her fluids in and taking it easy. The cardiologist told her not to drive and not to walk more than a quarter of a mile until they can determine the cause of the dizziness, backouts and seizures. Thanks again, Rita

Rita, It could be low blood pressure due to lower blood volume. Is she getting enough fluid? I had problems with getting light-headed due to lack of fluid causing low blood volume which lowers the bp. Vickie J.
