Alcohol consumption danger. No judging. :)
I will post the article again when I find it. I read a great one about the effects of drinking on WLS patients. It explained the mechanics of it, but it basically said that our blood alcohol level is raised on fewer drinks. Therefore we are drunk easier, get DUIs easier and suffer from alcohol poisoning easier. It is not just that we feel the effects sooner. Our bodies are actually drunker on less alcohol. We metabolize it differently. I am posting this after reading the post farther down about people's scary experiences with alcohol. Ladies you were experiencing alcohol poisoning and it is often deadly!! I drink and you put the fear in me. Eating doesn't ease this, time doesn't ease this. It is based on amount consumed and our WLS. Please be extra careful. Drink slowly. Enjoy the effects of each drink and let time pass before you consume another so you know how tipsy you are. Watch the bartender make your drink so you know just what you are consuming. Some bartenders are very heavy handed. Many hugs, Loris
I didn't drink much prior to surgery, and it's practically non-existent now. However, when I do have a glass of wine, it is liberally doused with ice...and some more....and some more....until I've finally finished the one glass of wine I nursed for about 4 hours. I've seen it happen to other post-ops and I can't understand the "fun" of getting drunk more easily(someone else's words, not mine).

You know - I have a drink once in a while, and I do get very tipsy very fast, but I have to say, even without WLS, alcohol affects women MUCH MORE than it affects men. I remember a study one of those dateline news shows did with men and women drinking the same alcohol, same amounts, same time between drinks, etc. and it really took a toll on the women - there were doctors monitoring the study and checking temperatures, heartrates, etc. It was interesting and I wish I remembered more of the facts, but it didn't have anything to do with WLS, so I can only image the affects AFTER wls...
