I am being told , and have read on line now that Coffee counts as water intake . I know my surgeon told me to stay away from it .. or no more than 2 cups a day . But all that I am reading states it is good for us . What are your thoughts on this ? Natalie

As caffeine is dehydrating, fully loaded coffee does NOT count against our water intake. If you do drink caffeine, Ive been told the drink twice the water... 8 oz of coffee=16 of water. I personnally drink about 10 oz of caffeine per day in coffee form and then water or other noncal, non caf beverages. Hope this helps. Hugs Karen

Natalie: I am a regular coffee drinker too. I was also told to increase water to compensate for the diuretic affect of caffeine. I think as long as your pouch tolerates it, it's fine. Excessive caffeine could be irritating to the pouch, so we need to be careful. DeeAnn

I agree with the others. Our group teaches that caffine is not good and to limit it and that you drink more water to compensate. CathyA

From what I have been told, as the other posters have mentioned that caffeine is a diuretic so if we do drink caffeinated beverages we are suppose to double our water consumption, however, I drink only decaffeinated coffee so I do count it as part of my water, now I'm wondering if this is true?
