although I had "issues", I'd do it all again - with each and every single one of those wicked bad things I had to deal with. Living like this for the last 3+ years, I'd not go back for a second. you can read my profile if you'd like to see what I went through. Life is just far to grand now.

I'm not quite 3 yrs out. I'm not sure if what's going on is from the surgery or not. I'm having problems with hypoglycemia that the endo is trying to figure out. I also am still having bone loss, but I had that before the surgery. Even if both are caused by the surgery, I would do it again in a heartbeat! I can sit in any booth in any restaraunt. I can shop in any store. No more sleep apnea. My knees don't hurt unless I make them by doing some different type of exercise. I can ride a bike. I can go on amusement park rides (not that I will since I get motion sickness). Guys flirt with me! That one was a really big shock! The biggest complication has been our bank account since I seem to want to keep buying clothes! I mean, really, how many Victoria Secerts bras and panties does one woman need??? I'm trying to answer that one! My post op course was pretty smooth other than an infection around the G tube. A few antibiotics, and I was right as rain. I had more problems after the panniculectomy!

Hypoglycemia is so very common with us WLS people. About the only thing we can do is to eat small meals often, not snacks but meals. I suffer with this as do about 98% of the WLS people I know. Darlene

Rebecca, I'm just 2 1/2 years post-op, but I didn't have any complications, not even anything minor. What a gift from God this surgery was for me--at 54-yrs-old--to have a dramatic new chance for a healthy & hopefully longer future! Jo

I had an slight infection in a suture which required antibiotics. I greatly reduced the use of NSAIDs. Eventually my shoulder pain became unbearable and required an acromioplasty to clean out the joint. It probably would have required it eventually in any case. Other than that, nothing but a loss of 150 pounds and control over my BP, cholesterol and blood sugar. NowhereMan/PH/Jay

Hi Rebecca Im curious...why you want to know this?? Just my opinion of course but I would guess that when one has had any surgery the body will somehow at some point have some sort of reaction to it...I would think that is a normal thing...The degree of complication I guess would depend on the patients overall health and maybe the expertise of the Surgeon doing the procedure Peace Stacey

I was hospitalized twice in the last 3 years. First hospitalization was a hernia that had to come out with emergency surgery, about 6 months out. I think obese people walk around with several hernias, and that one flared up so I wouldn't call that a WLS complication. Second hospitalization was for my plastic surgery where they took off about 5 lbs of loose floppy skin. That was a direct effect of my WLS surgery, but I wouldn't have changed anything for the world. I am no longer wider than I was tall, I have no blood pressure issues, no diabetes, no sleep apnea. I have had some teeth chip on me, and I do take the calcium supplements, but there are other minerals in play there like maganese and fluoride, so I am starting using a flouride rinse. That is my only issue, but I am an old fart so my body should start falling apart soon anyway, I figured my prostate would be first to go, but it looks like the teeth will win that one.
