hi Trudy, did you also post this on the main board? its been almost 2 1/2 years since my surgery so I am not one to pick which is better.things have changed a lot since I had my gastric bypass. I tried to find out more about you but you don't have a profile. Donna 277/150ish

Before stressing over which one you want, I would check into which one your insurance will actually pay for. Many insurances will not pay for the Lap Band or the DS. Your only option may be Gastric Bypass. That would certainly make your decsion easier.

I agree~check with your insurance co and then research, research, research! I spent many hours here at OH and other places on the web checking everything I could out. Research the surgeons in your areas as well. Talk to them, talk to their patients, go to pre op support group meetings and get any info that you can! Good Luck to You! Tracy B 328/150 5'9"

that decision should be up to your surgeon, which one he thinks is best for you. Not all surgeries work for everyone...we are all unique...... Darlene

Something that I did that helped a lot was to post on each of the boards and ask "Why did you choose ?" I was actually a little shocked at all the great responses I got. You may be denied the first time for a DS, but if your insurance will cover a RNY, it will cover a DS also. Almost everyone wins this fight now that Medicare covers the DS. Good for you doing your homework!
