I am almost 13 months out. I hope this is the right place! WLS is the best thing I could have done for myself... Since we are all graduates of 12 mos or more? Did anyone have any trouble with TOLERATING SWEETS without dumping? I shamefully admit I did. I have to get back on track. Any suggestions on how to De_Sensitize my self and " Aim Straight" again? Hope to be here more often

Same here, I don't dump on sweets but do for the most part avoid them. I didn't do well for the holidays though and gained a couple of lbs....today I started a strict program, 2 protein shakes, lots of water/crystal light/decaf coffee and tonight I had lettuce w/boiled chicken breast and 1 oz of cheese. I was going for all liquids today but have a headache this afternoon and really feel hunger so decided to eat but it had to be healthy. Dana

I am also (unfortunately) one who does not dump on sweets, and I curse the day I ate that first brownie! I was so-o-o good for about the first 18 mo. (not that I didn't overeat at times, but it was relatively "good" stuff), but ever since I started straying into the land of sweets, I've struggled big time! Now that the holidays are over and I'm headed back to work tomorrow (h.s. guidance counselor), I started today with eating & drinking like I should! Although I know I feel so much better when I'm eating protein/veggies/fruit/whole grains/liquids, the addictive lure of the bad carbs is just BRUTAL for me. I know what I have to do, but it's really unbearably hard sometimes. It helps me tremendously to be able to come to OH and know that other grads are struggling just like I am, and it's especially encouraging to hear the success stories of those who have gotten back on track. I don't have any particular suggestions other than to just get the crap out of the house. I am fortunate in that our kids are grown & gone, so it's just my husband & I, and he supports me 100% in keeping the junk away. Even when I've been bad w/ my eating, I've continued to exercise (although not nearly as faithfully in the last couple months). Now I'm making the commitment to getting to the gym (or getting out and power walking when weather permits) at least 5 days/wk. I know that at my age (56), with so many decades of obesity, exercise absolutely has to be a part of my life. Welcome--and hope to "see" you here often! Jo

I've only dumped once and I do sugar occasionally, but try to avoid it for the most part. I have to quit cold turkey and just detox for a few days and then the cravings go away. Good Luck and Welcome to the Grad's Board! Tracy B 328/150 5'9"

I'm almost 3 years out and sugar is a crapshoot! Sometimes I dump, sometimes, I don't. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. I will sometimes dump on milk but not always. I rue the day I ever tried sugar. I was better off not knowing if I would dump. Humans are really stupid. If dogs do something that hurts, they won't do it again. Humans aren't that smart. Even if I dump, will I drink egg nog again? Sure! DUH. Cuz it tastes good! The heck with feeling awful in 10 minutes and for the next hour. It's worth it, right? I'm trying to be smarter in 2007. The best thing to do is to go cold turkey. Go back to basics. Protein, water, exercise. For about 3 days, the cravings will be bad. Hang on, it gets better. And you will feel better too. This is also a pep talk for me! We all can do this!
