Hi all -- I had a roux-en-y (medial/distal) almost 5 years ago, in May of 2002. I dropped half my body weight (327 to 165) and have been at a stable weight (with the occasional 5 lbs up and down) since 12 months after surgery. I'm 27 and starting to think about having kids, and I want to get educated about pregnancy after gastric bypass. Does anyone have any experiences to share? My health has been great, other than a very significant iron deficiency that required infusions to correct...but my BP and resting heart rate are great, I have tons of energy, and my vitamin levels seem just fine. Dr George Fielding at NYU is looking after me, although I had my surgery in Little Rock, AR, with Dr. John W. Baker. I'm not looking to get pregnant anytime soon, but just want to know with certainty that I could have a healthy pregnancy (or two or three!) when the time comes. Thank you for any help you can provide!! MEB

Martha, I've no experience to help you but wanted to direct you to the post-op pregnancy board, there are many post-ops that have had very healthy babies post-op. Best wishes on as many bundle of joys as you wish for. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/ Dana

I had gastric bypass 13 months ago. Now, I am 6 weeks pregnant. The above forum recommended is great. You can learn lots of new things and asks all kinds of questions. See you there!
