Happy new year to all! I haven't been on here in a while, but I have hit the goal that my surgeon set for me, plus some My surgery was 09/26/05 and I was 291 and now I am 159!!! My surgeon set a goal of 165-170 for me and I was shocked when I passed it by! I feel very blessed and fortunate! Thanks for all the support!

Congratulations on making your goal! I, myself have had Lap-band surgery (actually on the same day as you) and am down 85 pounds on my way to 100-120 (we'll see.) I'm actually writing to ask about your RNY for my husband who needs WLS but is undecided about which type to choose. He is mostly concerned about the malabsorption of the RNY. I'd like to ask how you've managed with all the vits and proteins that are needed post-op. Any advice or information that you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, and again, congratulations!

Hi there! I did have a problem with the protein during the first 6 months and have minor issues with my iron levels. I had a hard time tolerating the protein drinks, they would give me a really bad stomach ache and I pretty much was only getting about 1/2 my protein intake that I was supposed to. I know I could've researched better and tried different variations though, I was just too busy (but thats no excuse!). When I started eating a more broad diet, I was fine though, I made sure I was getting enough protein through my food intake. I have always had issues with my iron levels, so I believe that is why I had more of a problem po-op. The iron pills made me sick to my stomach all the time, but now I am fine according to my latest labs. I have been eating very healthy and take my multi-vitamin and calcium almost daily, which I know has helped a lot! All in all, I think the RNY was the best surgery option for me and I would highly recommend it. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to as****ep up the good work and good luck to you and your husband!
