Heart attacks - what are the chances?
I posted this on the main board too - just too weird.
So last night at 10:10 my best friend called me and told me that her dad had just suffered another heart attack. I was shocked and supportive. Told her whatever she needed - I was there.
DH and I were watching TV when at 10:30 my father calls and talks to DH (he's a paramedic) and I could tell things weren't good. The end of the conversation heard - call 911.
So DH and I go meet the ambulance at my parents house last night (which by the way we were having a lovely snow storm - friggin' ditch divers GALORE!) We made it there just as the cops and one of the engines were leaving. We go up to the ambulance (we know everyone on the department because we both work there) and there's mom - getting an EKG and getting ready for an IV.
I have DH ride in ambulance and I follow. So I ring my GF up and tell her, uhhh,,,, you're never going to believe this, but I'm on the way to the hospital because it appears my mother had a cardiac episode as well today!
Who'da thunk? Both of our parents had heart attacks within hours of each other?
I've spent the entire day going from one end of the hospital to the other.
I'm tired - what a sucky way to ring in the New Year!
That is very strange. I hope that your friend's father and your mother are all doing well today and on the road to recovery.
Let us know how they are doing. I'll keep them in my thoughts.
Warning... my own rant for the end of 2006...
I know what you mean about going from one hospital to the other. That was Wednesday for me. We get a call at 2:45 am from Rich's mom, his father is having trouble breathing and he is being taken to the hospital. She didn't know which hospital - we have many around here. Luckily, Rich knows the dispatchers around here (he does traffic on a number of radio stations and often has to confer with them on accidents and road conditions) so they let us know where he was taken. It was the hospital near our house. We get over there just after 3 am. His breathing sucked. They have him on meds on oxygen. We stay with him til he has a room and then we have to leave to get me to the other hospital by 7 am for my lumpectomy for breast cancer. With the radioactive stuff for lymph node identification and marking the area to remove... surgery is at 11:45-12:00. By 2:30 pm, I'm out of surgery and recovery and we are in the car and back on the way to the other hospital to see his dad before heading home. Then the following day back and forth to the hospital to see him, get groceries for his mom, then ex-hubby says the dog is sick and this may be the end and since I'm home...perhaps I'd like to spend time with her. He drops her off. She is indeed sick and we went up taking her to the ER vet that night. The next day, I spent with her before we took her to the vet to be put down. She was just short of 19 years old and the joy/love of my life. I tell you... those 3 days sucked royally.
Take care, Kathy
