Well,,the issue is what kind of condition the heart is in during this whole weight loss process. Losing weight is stressful on the body as well as gaining weight. My brother lost 56lbs on medifast 3 yrs ago. 3 months after he lost the weight and was on the behavioral management phase, he suffered a heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery. But if your not having any symptoms,,don't sweat it, and discuss the issue with your Dr. My sister is a nurse,,,and I always kid her and say she knows enuff to kill herself!!

I would assume that the heart issues would be from damage already done by heredity and poor eating for so many years. The other thing I can think of is that if the person had a very hard time eating along their journey and didn't get adequate nutrition especially protein... the body might break down muscle tissue to avoid starving itself. The heart is a muscle therefore damage could be done. That would be in a very extreme case though. I know someone who did have a heart attack (actually 2 I believe) and it was due to a thiamine deficiency (B1). The lack of B1 causes the body to not absorb nutrition properly. Sad to think that one extra vitamin could have prevented that. Be sure that when you get your labs checked, your vitamin levels are checked! Kathy
