Any feed back I can get will be great. I need a Multi Vitamin and IRON. I am RNY 4 yrs. I live near the Vitamin Shoppe, Costco, BJ and Traders Joes. My question is what is a good Multi-Vitamin and IRON that I can get at these places. I was taking Vitamins that I had to order on-line, I want to be able to just go to a store and pick it up instead. I was thinking of taking Woman's ONE A Day, any suggestions? Do I need to take two of them a day or the recommended amount of ONE A DAY.

My weight management doctors have me taking Optisource vitamins each day. I take 4, spread out during the day and I have great labs. I am 2 years out and doing very well., having lost 169 lbs. I get these vitamins at Walgrens, they cost $24.99 a month. I do not take extra iron as my lab tests are all normal. Good luck on your search. Monica

I purchase all my vitamin and mineral needs at Costco as they are the best $$$-wise for me compared to everywhere else .. oftentimes even better than the buy 1-get 1 free offers at local pharmacies and supermarkets. My suggestion, though, is to take a bit of time to visit some of the places you do have around you to do some comparison research on both cost and ingredients. Good luck, Carol

Most of the plain "iron" supplements around are ferrous sulfate which in small doses are known as irritants to the gastric system so they are generally not recommended for post-ops. A good "store bought" iron is Vitron C. Costco has it behind the pharmacy counter as dose CVS. The Vitamin Shoppe might have it too. Those were recommended by my surgeon. They are ferrous gluconate along with vitamin C for absorption. I wouldn't get a multi-vitamin with iron. I was taking the Vitron C but wanted to try another iron. I get it online only though. My labs improved nicely after switching and making a small dosage change. I now take Vitaladys Tender Iron. They aren't made to be chewable but as soft enough to chew and do not taste bad. I chew 'em with a vitamin C (provides the flavor). Those are only available at vitalady.com As for multi-vitamins, many take Centrum Silver or other Centrums. Hubby takes 2 of the Silvers each day. I do not since I have issues with aspartame and that is what they are sweetened with. I take a capsule multi-vitamin from Twinlabs. I think it is called Day One or something like that. I can get them at the Vitamin Shoppe though I get them cheaper online elsewhere. I take 2 a day of those. Kathy

I take 2 daily doses of a women's multi vitamin that I get at Wal-Mart, Women's One Source, costs around $10.00 for 120 tablets (60 doses, 30 day stash). I picked that brand as it had a lot more thiamine than the regular One Source or the One Source Senior that I had been taking. I also take 2 Gentle Iron tablets daily, which I also buy at Wal-Mart, can't recall how much that costs, but they are pretty cheap. Lately I've also had to add a vitamin D supplement (despite the 200% daily RDA in the multivitamins), so I'm taking that, too. My hemoglobin and hematocrit levels have always been normal, but my ferritin level dropped to the low end of normal as of last June. I added the Gentle Iron and my ferritin levels have rebounded from 13 to 36 as of 12/1/06 (and my hair is starting to grow back). The Gentle Iron is advertised as being stomach friendly, and it has vitamin C in it to assist the absorbtion of the iron. I've had no additional problems with constipation in the 4 months I've been taking it. hope this helps, Sue O.
