ANYONE ELSE?
Just curious if anyone else is doing this.
For the past few weeks, I will eat a salad, sometimes with grilled chicken or something, sometimes without. Really, it can be pretty much anything, not just salad. I feel perfectly fine after I eat it, until about 2 hrs later. I then start to yak my guts out until I have completely emptied my pouch.
My surgeon places a ring around the stoma area when he does the RNY, and I'm wondering if maybe I need to get it removed. I have an appt to see him on the 22nd, but I'm just curious if anyone else is having this experience (ESPECIALLY if you have the ring too!).
I also have lost alot more weight than I really wanted to. I'm down to around 102, sometimes I go up to 107; I'm 5'6" and small framed, but my hubby says that without clothes, I look anorexic.
I started at 242, and my surgery was 2/16/04. Just for the record, I am SO NOT anorexic, bulemic, or anything like that. I eat constantly because I am trying to get back up to at least 120. And, I do NOT under any cir****tances enjoy or encourage vomiting, so please don't speculate that as the problem.
Just looking for some kind words and good input-Thanks!
Sherri
I've known a lot of people in support groups who've had wls but never heard of this problem. None of us have the ring so I don't know if that could be part of your problem but I'd expect the problem to occur sooner than 2 hours after eating if it were related to the ring.
Hope your surgeon can help you with the problem. Best of luck for a quick solution.
I would be shocked if there was still food in your pouch after 2 hours. WOW. If there is, then maybe stuff isnt getting through.
I dont have a ring, but my surgeon takes a piece of fashia (tissue surrounding muscle) and wraps it around the stoma for support - same idea as the ring, just different material.
I have never had problems throwing up 2 hours after eating... after 5 minutes of eating, yes.
I have a lap band, and it sounds like you have something similar with your ring. I have to be careful when I eat salads that the greens don't form a seal over my stoma (kind of like wet leaves). Because when they do, I will inevitably barf everything up.
But this happens about 15-20 minutes after I eat - not two hours later. So I am as puzzled as everyone else as to what the matter could be.
Does it happen after you drink something? Is it possible that the wet leaves effect doesn't become apparent until you drink? Just guessing here......
Since it's two hours afterward, maybe it's to do with your intestines. Maybe an intolerance to something?
Thanks, everyone for giving me your input. I am just ready to find out what the heck is going on so I can FIX IT!
Don't get me wrong, I still am extremely grateful that I had the surgery...I just want to feel a little better.
Do any of you have problems eating a "full meal"? I still can only eat a few bites, and I am FULL. Mind you, I am close to 3 years out! Can't eat more than 2 bites of 1/2 a sandwich, can't eat even a happy meal size hamburger..I feel like I am still 4 or 5 months out of surgery-relating to the amount of food I can ingest.
Is it possible that my pouch could be too small? have you ever heard of that?
Thanks again!
Sherri
