Faces and Such
Yes, the face and the body may need PS after a lot of weight loss. It is common to need the face done after weight loss. Check out the PS message board here.
There are several terms used for facial PS, and it can be confusing. The removal of the excess skin above (or below) the eyes is called a blephero.... something. It is not considered part of a "face lift."
You can have an "upper" face lift, which lifts the eyebrows and smooths out the wrinkles on the upper half of the face. It's done by pulling the skin up into the scalp.
Or, you can have a "lower" face lift, which will essentially get the neck and the area around the mouth and jaw. (By the way, the lower face lift is considered superior to just getting a neck lift, because it gets the whole jaw line, not just the neck). The skin is lifted and pulled back behind the ears.
And, of course, you can have both done for a total face lift. Plus you can have a number of other things done as well.
I am having a lower face lift and my eyes done next year, but I do not need an upper face lift. And by the way, it can be more expensive than getting a TT/BL/BA!
Hello Shirl -
I had a LOWER face lift done a year plus ago - love the results. It's basically a lot more inclusive then the typical "neck lift" ...they cut up and around the ears, which helps to pull the skin tighter around the mouth area - to include the neck (waddle) with a small incision just below the chin/neck area.
At the time of my lower face lift I also opted for an UPPER eye lid lift. Which was much cheaper to do at the SAME time as the lower face lift, because the Operating room costs and anesthesia were only being charged for ONE procedure, not PER procedure.
This surgery (and Ive had 4 plastic surgery type operations) was one of my more rewarding surgeries. Prior to the surgery, my face (to me) looked to be in my mid 60's, early 70's ....now I look my age, 40's and that is a very good thing! Which is probably why I didnt bother with a "total face lift" ...I wasnt trying to look younger, I just wanted to look my age.
I'm thrilled with the results!! There are pictures in my profile - just click on the upper right link for Plastic Surgery Photos.
I just went and looked at your profile and pictures. I literally am speechless other than Holy Sh@t!!! Wow, you look amazing!! You dont look ANYTHING like that other woman!! I am so amazed and proud of you. I am 3.5 yr post and was a "light weight" and havent need plastics. But, what you have had done and the results are mind boggling, esp the tummy tuck pic with your surgeons foot. WOW!
I know how much better I feel not carrying around an extra hundred pounds, I cant even begin to imagine how you do. This is an amazing gift that we have recieved. It is still hard and I still struggle, but man is it worth it!! Thanks for sharing!!

I carried a lot of weight in my face and neck, so when I lost 147#, it really showed. I am 54 years of age. So this last February, I had the following done: brow lift, upper and lower eye lift, lower face and neck lift, and some fat was injected into the "marionette" lines between my nose and the corners of my mouth. There are some pics on the www link of my profile.
If you go to a plastic surgeon, he/she will discuss with you what will look best for you. Everyone is different.

It was in the neighborhood of $15,000 for all of those procedures. My PS has his own surgical suite in his office. He also gives me a discount since I'm a "frequent cutter"--LOL.
I would also suggest that you be sure to find a surgeon who has lots of experience with WLS patients, we are different from other PS patients.
