Falling below goal, any ideas?

My 12-year-old son took a picture of me this afternoon. I'm about 15 pounds below goal, depending on whose scale I use. I think I'm a little on the thin side, dare I say??? I'm working on keeping my weight up - what a problem to have. Who'd have thought I would even be saying, "I need to put on a little weight." I'm actively adding calories and being good. I'm healthy, though - so that's good. Blood work's great. Is anyone else having trouble keeping up to their goal weight? I've gone back to basics and I'm having more protein. Hugs to all, Cheryl

You look great ! I on the other hand have a ways to go to worry about problem. I would imagine that if you want to put some more weight back on you may want to try adding more carbs....after all isn't that what put us there in the first place Just a suggestion. Sandy

Thank you, Sandy, for the kind words. You're right about carbs being what put us here in the first place. I'm "carb-phobic" now, and try not to eat many simple carbs at all. I really watch sugar and limit myself to 5 grams per day. I do have complex carbs in the forms of veggies and beans. I really want to maintain, but I have this fear that I'll wake up one morning and weigh 250 pounds again. So, I've been adding protein calories and some fat, like the full-fat cottage cheese and other cheeses. I put a little butter on my veggies now, but I learned too well. I guess I have to wait to stabilize. I'm beginning to think I have an eating disorder, the opposite way now. I do see myself as too thin, so I'm not anorexic. I don't throw up, so I'm not bulimic - but I'm terrified of gaining weight. I try to make sure I get at least 800 to 1000 calories a day, but I have to push really hard to get there. Cheryl

Bob, Thank you so much! You put into words what I wasn't really able to articulate properly. I do eat properly - protein first and then my veggies. My blood work is really good. I did have a vitamin D deficiency, but we're fixing that now. I wasn't always obese. I gained all my weight in 10 years between age 40 and 50. My "normal" weight from my teens until my 40s was 123, not a pound up or a pound down. I vary between 130 and 127. I have a very small frame. I'm 5'5". I always WAS thin. I guess I'm renormalizing. After seeing myself as so big for so long, it looks like I'm kind of gaunt, but those who knew me when I was not obese don't see anything unusual about me. See, it's all perspective. I will remain carb-phobic because I know that's what got me there in the first place. Enjoy the new you, too, Bob. I'm loving this and know WLS gave me myself back. Cheryl

I am only 5'2" tall. I lost 130 pounds. At 112 I was way too thin and frail. I had to put some weight back on!! IT took me 9 months to gan 12 pounds!! NEVER thought it would happen!! ANyhow, I was sickly at that weight. BUT>>> if YOU feel good and your labs are good..well go with it!! Your body will eventually stabilize. I try to stay away from carbs..but I do eat a few. PLanters trail mix, occasionally cheese and crackers..BUt do what makes you feel good. And remember we are own worst critic!! I think you look great!! REnee

My weight is about right for my age and height, but when I look at my face I wonder if I am too thin. (132 lbs, 5'1", 61 years old, large frame.) I am not to a point to be concerned. My doctor has encouraged me to eat a little peanut butter to keep from losing weight. It has been 20 months since my surgery.

With WLS our faces look very thin because for some reason we loose so much fat in our cheeks. Your weight sounds good for your height. I am 5'4'' and weigh 137 lbs and I can still afford to loose some more. I do not want to go below 125. I would even be happy to stay where I am. My weightloss has slowed down greatly. I may loose 1-2 lbs a month. I do eat a small amount of carbs such as rice, pasta and potatoes. I think this has helped in me in slowing down my weightloss. My priorties have changed since surgery that the carbs I do not crave but I do enjoy a very small amount as part of one meal a day. Good Luck. Your body should know when to stop loosing weight.

Thanks Janet, My priorities have changed as well. I also don't want to go below 125. I can't eat rice except for wild rice (which is actually a grass and full of fiber). I have soy pasta - see, I have found all kinds of acceptable substitutes that add protein. I have eaten the occasional potato, but only after I've eaten my protein. My body's still figuring out where it supposed to be. Cheryl
