BL/ BA Consultation

Well yesterday, I had my first plastic surgery consultation. I went to see Dr Fasching in Plymouth, MN. It first started with his nurse going over my background and medical history, then he came in and explained the breast lift and breast augmentation procedure. We went over how incisions are made, what I can expect, difference in implants, etc, etc. I asked a bunch of questions and he had no problem answering every single one. Then he stepped out so that I could put on the lovely paper robe. He came back in to exam me. He said that I really don't need that dramatic of a lift but definitely needed one. He had me stand up and then lay down also. He said that because I do not have that wide of a base, that most of my "keyhole" scar will be a vertical and he wont need to make that big of a horizontal cut under the breast, which is always nice to reduce scars. He said the surgery would take just about 2 hours and then I would have time to recover for a few hours, then be taken home and then see him the next day for the follow up. We then talked size. I told him I wanted to be a solid D cup. He said doing over 250 procedures a year that he was pretty good at estimating the size. What I thought was cool, but different that what I have heard was that we don't pick a size until surgery. I will come in 2 weeks before surgery with pictures of the size that I want. Being a full D and not having much tissue to start with he would start using a moderate profile silicone implant - he said that I could probably take anywhere between 450-550cc. He will bring in several sized implants into the operating room and try them all out - he will then decide based on my criteria of size which one best suits my body. He said being taller and not having a real wide breast that I I can handle a bigger implant. He said the problem with picking a definite size in the beginning was that if I stick with 500cc and he puts it in during surgery - it may not fill me out to the shape I wanted to be, but would be stuck with it. Giving him the power to make the decision, in my opinion, was the best way to do it. He has seen way more breasts than me and has been operating on them a whole lot more to know what looks best but not making me look to fake. He said he would not want anyone of his patients to be embarrassed by their breasts being too big. Well after we were done talking the nurse came in again to go over before/after care for both procedures -pretty basic stuff for any operation. Then the financial lady came in to discuss price. The surgeons fee's, implants, etc was $6720 and then the facility fees and anesthesia was estimated at $2000 which came to a grand total of $8720, which is only good til the end of the year. She estimated prices to increase 3-4% which I would expect. One more piece of info. The "gummy bear" implants which are the new silicone implants were FDA regulated just up until this past weekend. They were now approved and you don't have to be a part of the study to get them in your body anymore. Any doctor who is certified in using them can. Typically to be a part of the FDA study you had to be having a lift with augmentation by a certified doctor. I might add that Dr. Fasching was a part of the research on these implants as well as a part of the study - he knows everything about them! Well I think that is all I had to report - let me know if you have any questions. I would like to go see a couple more surgeons before I make my decision, but Dr. Fasching is definitely at the top - he knows his boobs!

So in doing a lift, does it change/reduce sensitivity of the breast? What kind of care do you have to do for wounds afterwards? This is definitely in my plans, so I'm interested in knowing what I may be in for. --BT

Yes it can change your sensitivity - but you wont know til you have it done. They can lose sensitivity or gain it. I heard for the first couple months there will be little sensation but it will gradually come back. Maybe someone that has had them can comment on that one. The stiches are inside and are dissolvable - then there is surgical tape on the outside skin. The tape will come off later and that is it. I know there are all types of scar reducing creams out there to help make it heal so that it isnt as noticable, but I think most PS are good about making nice looking scars.

I had a reduction/lift done 2 months ago today and I never lost sensitivity. There was drains which came out a week later and stitches are dissolving on their own. My surgeon used back fat injected into breast to plump, I didn't so implants but even though I had a reduction I am still the same size just where it's suppose to be!!
