i think something is wrong here...
Ok here's the story....I've been trying to take off another 10-15 pounds to get back to my goal weight. i've been taking in 1200 calories or less, walking 4 miles 3 days a week and kickboxing/aerobics 2 days a week. plus i've been working my butt off so i haven't been eating as much and i rarely snack on anything but jello and if i do it's almonds. but i've been falling asleep so early at night i don't eat anything after dinner and during the day i'm busy now. so here's the problem...the scale is going UP! i'm up 5 more pounds since i started working 2 1/2 weeks ago. does that make any sense? and i'm not in that time of the month yet either and usually that week i'm only up to 160 but today i weighed and the scale said 162. what the heck is going on?!? i'm getting a little concerned especially since i'm eating less...i'd think i'd be dropping some pounds! my size 10's are getting tight and i started the summer in a comfy size 6. i'm not happy at all!!! any suggestions on what to do? thanks in advance!
Steph
Hey Steph ... maybe you're not doing enough calories? My nut had me do a metabolic rate assessment (to prove a point about my eating issues I'm sure) ... my results showed that with my metabolism, I should consume 1100-1426 calories to lose, and 1427-1800 to maintain.
Other than that I don't know what to suggest, but you know I wish you well! Let us know what you come up with that ends up working, ok?
Take care,
Karyn
Sounds like the old "starvation" mode kinda thing has kicked in (holding on to every calorie). You might need a "jump-start" by upping cals a bit. Make yourself eat the 5-6 small meals/snacks daily - & get in the beverages - on purpose. You should see an immediate shift. (It's worked for me for the past 3 years of maintenance)
PLUS, you've upped your MOVEMENT - growing muscles weigh more. Dunno.
All else fails: give your nutritionist a call !

Hi Stephanie! I can totally relate to what you are going through. I posted something similar a couple of weeks ago. I have those extra 10 pounds to lose so about 4 weeks ago I started a working out doing cardio and weights. I also was consuming about 1200 calories a day. And the scale did exactly what your did...up,up...about 4 pounds. I share in your frustration. It's hard when you know you are doing everything right and the scale just doesn't cooperate. I found my problem was exactly what the other people have suggested. My calories must have been too low. I added in about 200 calories a day and the next thing I know the 4 pounds I gained were gone along with an additional 2 pounds. Hope this helps!
hey mary. i think i'll try upping the cals again a little. i'll just add in a shake or something like that. i'm at a point where i feel guilty eating when my weight is such an issue. i don't like that at all! i sometimes feel like i'll never be happy with my weight or small enough. i'm happy with all other aspects of my life i guess i just need to work on my body image issues! thanks for the advice! i'll start on that today.
Hi Stephanie. I understand about never being happy. When I first had WLS, I would have been thrilled to be the weight I am now...but there are still those 12 pounds that I gained back that I want off. I honestly found out about upping my calories my accident. I got on the scale one morning and I was up 4 pounds. I just got a little attitude about that so that day I ate more than I had been eating. And then the scale started moving...in the right direction. I hope this works for you. Let me know.
I'll jump on the "up your cal" bandwagon.
My metabolic testing showed me needing 1300 cals to just fuel my body. More to cover any exercise. I burn 2000 a day. So if I eat between 1300 and 2000, I should lose. 2000 I should maintain. If I exercise, up those cals ranged accordingly.
Good luck with increasing things. The bottom line is that less calories isn't necessarily going to yield a loss.
