the same old thing

Hello fellow grads. I do not get to come on as often as I used to, which really does not help me. I have family and friends and do not totally understand the times when I am so depressed about the holidays. I am so happy one moment and depressed the next. Yes I find myself in the store about to or having purchesed "the same old things" that helped me to get to 375. I feel the urge to just sit and eat and no I do not mean fruits and veggies. My jobs Thanksgiving party and the Christmas party are all the same thing. They should be happy occassions but someone always manages to ruin it. They complain or pick fights or Yes forget the turkey. I just want to be happy and see others happy and this is never the case. I panic and buy food for the job. Does this solve anything, No and I know this. It does give me a momentary high though. Then someone come in and complains that I am trying to make them all fat an have no business buying foods like that anyhow. I love the holidays but will have less money this year for gifts due to poor credit management and impuls buying. Venting like a pressure cooker. Jess J

Jess, I just wanted to offer my shoulder to you. I don't really have any advice. Hubby and I just moved and family and friends are far away, so just us this year. Kind of sad, but none of the drama you are talking about. Hope things get better soon. Hugs, Bridget

Sorry you are feeling so low....What about picking up so "good" snacks ? For home, the job ? I grew up every Thanksgiving we would go visit family on my dads side. When he passed away mom couldn't do it. So we lost that " family get together" so for me the holidays were not just losing my dad but all that extended family. I get a little depressed holidays also . I have my own family now and try to get that feeling of "family" back but it doesn't last too long. My oldest daughter and hubby doesn't like her sister's bf....They all have issues with my son...(long story) my youngest is getting a major attitude with her nephews So after the dinner is done everybody leaves ......and sticks me with the clean up duty ! I keep saying each year I'm not going to do it but each year I do...For me it's the Family get together...As far as gifts how about some home made gifts. My sister is now into making jewlery. She sent me a bracelet for my birthday...If I was crafty enough that is what I would be doing for family members that I don't see often enough.. Hope you feel better soon. Sandy

Hi, Jess. I will add my sympathy (and empathy, I guess). I get very depressed at holiday times, and I'm not even sure why. My family all gets along pretty well when we're together, and I do enjoy that part of it. It's the other 10 million things that we seem to "need" to do every year that bothers me. The shopping (on a limited budget), wrapping, baking, decorating. I'm really not into it, and I hate to think that I'm a "Scrooge," but I'm sure I seem like that to a lot of folks! LOL And of course, there's the holiday eating, and this year more than any other, I cannot afford to "let myself go." I'm already struggling with a 20-pound regain and not wanting to add to that, but yet I know that I have no control when it comes to sweets. And what else is around at this time of year? OK, I vented now too. Thanks for listening! I'm glad we can come here to do that! Carlita

Hi, Just a suggestion for all on this post: try Splenda.com for recipes that are good and good for us. Maybe making a 1/2 batch of one of them will satisfy a need for sweets. Good luck! Marilyn
