day 2 liquid diet before major surgery
hi everyone, well I have written recently about my upcoming surgeries, I am having multiple surgeries on Wednesday. Hysterectomy, hernia repair, scar tissue removal and replacement of mesh where all that scar tissue is.
My GBS is also a general surgeon so i have been lucky he is there to do other surgeries since he knows the inside of my body. He will be working with my OB/GYN, Both have worked together on other patients before so I am in good hands.
When I saw him on the 2nd he noted I had gained a few pounds and wanted me to lose as much as I could before surgery because the area he will be cutting is where I had a TT and the skin is really taut! he wants some skin to work with and he hopes that a little weight loss will help.
I will admit i was eating some really really bad foods. I was under a lot of stress and I fell back on my old ways... the stress came from learning that my 19 year old son who is a Marine was going to Faluja... not sure of the spelling but this is the WORST plase to go. Thankfully his orders were changed and although he may still go to Iraq, its not there.
So when i saw the surgeon on the 2nd, he said he wanted me to go on the Liver Shrinking Diet (I listed it a few days ago on this board if you want to look at it) but I could not go on this diet until I went to a class with the dietitian on Tuesday... 5 days away... so in the mean time i went on a Atkins type diet and although the first day was hard, there is soooo many comercials out there to tempt us, I made it to the class on Tuesday and had already lost about 4 pounds!!!
The diet i was put on then was way different. i was to eat carbs and fruit and to cut down my salt intake... basically I could not eat anything out of a bag, box, can, bottle or TV type dinner... this included tuna. I eat tuna almost daily to get lots of protein but it had too much sodium... PLUS no going out to eat!! you dont know how they prepare the food...
so here it is, 11 days later and i have lost.......15 pounds!... this is on my home scale and I will check it on his scale tomorrow when I go for my pre surgery appt at the hospital.
The best part is, I have not really been hungry once, just that stupid head hunger!

Great job Donna! You are doing so good!!! I have to ask about fruits and veggies - is it everything fresh? And how much of it are you allowed to eat? I need to lose about 5 pounds - my body is just not cooperating with me. I was having an issues with water retention so I have remove sodium from my diet (as much as I could). So can you give me an idea of your menu for a day?
Keep up the great work!!!!!
Valerie
Wow Donna, 15 lbs is an amazing weight loss in less than 2 weeks. I started a liquids only diet today, I'm finding myself reverting to my old habits and don't want to lose total control. I am up 3 lbs above my personal goal of 125 lbs (I'm 5'1") and need to get a handle on this ASAP.
I will see how it works, so far today I am not hungry, busy at work so that helps allot.
I wish you the best results on your upcoming surgery, will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Dana
