Has anyone failed after the surgery and gained weight back?
Jackie - Why have you waited so long to get help? Did you go back to your surgeon? Have you been reading this board...there is lots of great help here. Keep posting I'm sure you will get much encourgement but you are in control of what you eat. I am not being hard on you - you have to have a change of heart, because you can do this again, get it in your head that your goal is to take care of yourself and not everyone else. You took the time and effort to go through this surgery I would hope for YOU!!!!!!
There are no failures..we just get lazy and go back to old habits. We are creatures of habit and some are harder to break than others. Get accountable with someone and go to support group, put aside embarassments and just do it...your life depends on it!
Ok I will get off my soap box....I would want someone to shake me back into the real world and remind me why I did this surgery, your tool didn't go away it will still work but you have to work the tool. Take care - deb k
jackie- i gained back about 30 pounds before i was able to get down to my goal and i am still fighting to take those off and get the pounds moving again---it is never too late to work our tool
can you try going back to basics-postop -liquids-
do not give up--just get your head wrapped around WHY you wanted surgery in teh first place!
private message me if you want to talk more-
like the other poster-above-i am not bashing or yelling but git your butt back on the program!!!!!!!! only YOU can make it work!!!!!!!!
identify triggers or foods or activities --and wipe them back out...i know- easier said than done--only you ,jackie, can do this--but you are not alone....
Maybe you didn't fail. Maybe your surgery failed. Many things happen depending on the type of surgery you had. Sometimes you have a stretched stoma where the food just flows through. If you weren't transected, maybe your old stomach reattached. You need to go to the doctor and get scoped to make sure that your surgery is still in tack. Many will tell you that all you have to do is watch what you east and exercise. Golly!!!!!!!!! Really!!!!!!!!!!!!! we don't know that huh. If I could do that, I wouldn't have needed the surgery. If your tool is broken, you may need a revision. I am a member of a great board of "graduates"

Hello! tomorrow is my 1 year anniversary from surgery. I started gaining weight about 5 months ago. I have gained about 11 pounds. Then I go down a little by watching what I eat. then I get comfortable.. then regain the weight.. these message boards are a great help and reminder of what I should be doing. I just keep logging on and realize.. that I am not alone.. it takes work to stay on track. I have lost 2 pounds recently.. and I am trying to lose about 10 more since my regain.
Jackie, first off get yourself to your surgeon and get scoped to determine if your surgery is intact. There are many reasons for regain....one being a failed surgery, yes your surgery could have failed you by breaking or not being the right surgery for you initially. The other reason could be yourself and compliance. I don't know why you've gained weight, and neither do any of us. You have to take control and find our why.
Did your stoma stretch, possible stable line disruption????? Maybe, but only by having your surgeon run the necessary testing will you know. If this is the case, then a revision might be your only option to gain control again.
If it's your choices, then I strongly recommend counseling.....learning why you might be sabatoging yourself and getting with a nutritionist might help you reverse the cycle.
I wish you the best.
Dana
Thank you for responding (also to all reading this). I do have an appt w/my dr on Wednesday & will discuss some of these options with him.
I waited so long out of embarrassment & humiliation to myself and family that "I failed". Since I am 2 years out, maybe there is an anatomical issue.
Will let you know what happens. Thanks, Jackie.
