ADDICTION- candy
Addiction- Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance.
In my case, sweets such as lots of candy. I even eat candy for breakfast, between meals, instead of meals, as a habit, before I know it- I am eating candy again. I don't know how to break this habit.
I tried the reward system- each day I can go without candy I will pay myself $5 so that I can buy something I want like clothes.... I have yet to pay myself. I eat candy everyday.
I tried to get rid of it in my home, but then I will go to the store to buy some.
I tried to write a message on my hand to remind me not to eat it but it doesn't help.
I have tried positive affirmations in the morning drive to work.
November 14th will be my one year anniversary. I lost weight quickly and everything has been well physically. Mentally, I struggle with good food choices. Even though I am not hungry, I eat. I have the same mental disorder when it comes to food as I had over a year ago.
I need some tips and advice. I am sure some of you have tried something that worked for you. i don't know what else to do.
I have gained 11 pounds in the past 4 months. I am on the wrong track. I desperately would like to find the discipline within.... but i have failed on my own. what else can i do?
I had sugar daddies for breakfast.
I suggest that you keep the candy out of your house. If you have to go out to get some, at least making the journey will make it more of a chore and it might cut down on some of your consumption.
Perhaps you can replace your "candy" with something else. Try cutting up some protein bars into 3/4 inch peices and wrap them in saran wrap. Keep them in the fridge and eat them as your "candy". I would also recommend that you start tracking your daily intake in a journal. Fitday.com works great for me. Seeing the caloric count and lack of food value in the candy will help detract your mind from wanting it.
Good luck,
Karen G
I have signed up for a fit day membership and have begun using it today. So far, it is surprising how these calories can add up. I suppose it would be easy to just enter all the data at the end of the day. I tried to paper and pencil route of tracking foods.. but fitday is better because it includes nutrition info. thank for your response.
OMG, I totally know where you are coming from. I am a sweet-a holic myself. I have to be very self disciplined when it comes to sweets. I try to wait until after dinner to have something but man I use so many calories. If I could totally cut out the sweets, maybe I could lose these 10 pounds I have put back on. I'll be looking for the responses you get to see if it can help me as well.
Candy
you are not alone. I am so addicted yo sweets since I found out I could eat them with no problem, excepting for the 30 lbs I have gained back. I had wls 4 years ago and about 6 mo. agoI had my first candy. Well since then its been awful. I am now down to one kind of candy I CRAVE, cats tails,. I dont know if you ever heard of them but I am addicted big time. I could eat them all day and nothing else,I dont, but I could.I too need help. I have even driven out at 900pm , all the way accross town, just to get some. So, I hope someone can help us both,Pat p.s., I had lost over 150 lbs and almost to goal and since I gained the 30lbs back I feel as fat as before.I am so unhappy with myself.
i have not heard of cat's tails... since it is tasty.. I am better off not knowing. I have gained back some weight too and i can feel it so much. when i walk and sit... my body just feels different... heavy. I know it is so hard. so i think these message boards are wonderful to remind us what we should be doing. so lets keep this going to remind us all that we are not alone, there are tips that may help us that have helped others, and just as a reminder to how we constantly have to work at making good choices.
I have the ole sugar addiction too. I keep boxes of chocolate covered frozen bananas in my freezer always. They are 150 calories a piece and very satisfying. I even get a whole banana in the process. SF popsicles and Blue Bunny SF firecracker pops help trmendously. Fruit smoothies made with 1/2 sugar oj is a great sub. Sometimes I even throw in a shot or two of rum...lol. Frozen chocolate cool whip rocks. SF puddngs with whipped cream is awesome. I will even take a banana and cut it up over SF chocolate pudding. Lite yogurt with fruit and soome granola is a great midday snack.
The point is there a lots of alternatives to satisfying those sweet teeth. Try them instead of the candy and see if they help.
Wow! Thank you so much for those ideas. I am sure that a lot of other people that will benefit from your ideas. Do you get banana's, dip the whole thing in chocolate, and then freeze them? That sounds delicious. How do you melt the chocolate? what do you wrap them in before freezing? what are frozen chocolate cool whip rocks? wow! thank you so very much.
