Worried about regain. Help!
I am having some anxiety about regain. It seems that a lot of my friends who have had RNY surgery before me have already regained weight - 20 or 30 pounds of it - and some even lots more. I am 21 months post op now, and I am still within my goal range, but I am starting to worry that I am doomed. Is this the story for everyone? I did dip too low, then I regained aobut 4 pounds, and now I have been steady for about 6 months and I am happy at my current weight. I do not want to gain any back!!! But I have been hearing that i should expect a regain of 20 pounds or so. Can anyone tell me what is correct?? My support group has a woman who has had the DS, and she is also saying that RNY patients will almost always regain, and the DS patients do not. So now I am wondering if I even chose the right procedure. This is not the info I found when I was investigating the surgery! Help!
Thanks,
Bekki
"They say" whomevver they are that there is a 10% rebound weight gain. Not sure when it comes... usually within 24 months I think. I know many that have had it - my hubby included and some who haven't.
I wouldn't worry or lose sleep over it. I would just be aware of your intake, keep exercising and don't fall back into old bad habits. If your body rebels against all of that there isn't alot you can do.

Hi Bekki,
I haven't been on here for years and just started reading. I had surgery 12/26/2002. Almost 4 years. I lost a total of 165lbs. I play with 5 lbs. It seems I don't change any eating habits and the scales just fluctuate. It is pretty scarry when it reaches the 5lb mark, which just happens to be 150. I DO NOT want to go over that mark. I guess we will always worry about something pertaining to weight. If you are already almost 2 years out and maintaining I think you will be fine. I don't think we can just go back to eating like we used to and expect the weight to stay off. My daughter had it done about 2 years ago and she has gained I would say 30 lbs back. This just really saddens my heart, but she has gone right back to her old habits. Just keep doing what you know to do and you will be fine.

Hi Bekki. I agree w/ Kathy & Cathy. It sounds like you're doing very well and small fluctuations will happen from day to day. My plan is just to stay on top of things, keep doing all of the good things that I've learned along the way and stick with exercising. If I go up a few pounds I just try to really get back to basics for a few days and the weight comes back off. I weigh daily so I know exactly where I stand for the day. I'm not perfect by any means, but I think having a mental plan is important. Congratulations on all of your success and keep us posted on how things are going!
