G'morning Natalie -
Sometimes, for me, its as simple as changing my routine. Especially the older I get - any type of change, curve, increase, but mostly decrease in activities. Drinking too much water, not drinking enough water ...lol, see the pattern, or lack of?
Im sure your body is pissed right about now - think about it, day in and day out of tests, prodding, poking, up, down, etc. You said you "do not get fluids" ...are you talking an IV? I know an IV in a hospital (for me) is as good as saying, anything pumped into the body stays in the body, for a very long time. I gained 11 pounds with my RNY surgery, after 3 days of IV's.
Anyway - you're a logical person and you KNOW it's NOT a true weight gain, butcha know what, sweet stuff? It's not like your body probably couldn't use the extra weight to help it stay strong and fight the next few weeks. Unfortunately, I think it's safe to say, it's not a true "weight/mass gain" ...it's a fluid gain.
Don't worry about weght right now, it's NOTHING you're doing wrong. Instead, just focus on getting you healthy, strong and outta' that hospital. You've got a lotta holidays, gatherings, parties, friends and LIFE calling your name.
Love you - Lei
Hey there ... Nope no IV... that is what is scary ..I thought I would not weigh but they weigh me everyday due to them having to adjust my meds they give me to stimulate the tumor and the gland .. it is so weird .. I got home from Lexington my weight was fine ..even down a pound or two and in side of 3 days here 6 pounds ...
So you are right .. I think my bod is freaking out ..
Love ya as always for your thoughts ..
Tink
Hi Nat! I have to agree with Lei~its not a true weight gain. I know for us its so scary to see the ##'s go up~its more psychological than anything. But you need to focus on getting healthy right now. Don't over do it~just do what you can do as long as it feels good. Getting in your protein is probably one of the most important things you can do right now so I think you're doing great! I will keep you in my thoughts and please update when you can!
Hugs,
Tracy B
Natalie--I agree--you know it is not real weight gain. I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you as you deal with this ugly tumor. I'm bringing my laptop next week when Lei and I are "doing" the theme parks--just so we can keep track of you. Take care and please do NOT worry about the weight thing.
Nat, Are you on a anti-depressant? My daughter is has been a skinny rail all her life,
she right now has so much going on, hubby has cancer, baby is autisic and her 5 yr old has ADD plus she works...she needed to get rid of the anxiety so went to dr.
gained 30 lbs over 2 months...they changed from lexapro to cymbalta and she is still gaining and freaking out...she has gained more than she did having 2 babies. NOW she believes me when I told her I wasn't eating when I gained 90 lbs.
My weight gain from 2001-05 was due to prozac and lexapro...since surgery I haven't taken them I use double doses of Omega 3 and don't need those meds and if I did I wouldn't ever take them again but I understand some people need them.
I haven't exercised since June due to 2 p.s. pocedures and lost 20 lbs only 7 due to tummy tuck so I doubt that is it....I started back on my upilates yesterday.
Sending you a hug and prayers, I hope things get better soon.
Hey Nat ... sorry to hear about your situation ... hope you don't have to be in there much longer. I think you may have a few things going on ... stress and not much exercise could do it, but another consideration is that maybe you're not getting enough fluids (as you mentioned) or enough calories. My nut had me do a metabolic rate assessment (to prove a point about my eating issues), and it showed that for me, with my metabolism, I should consume 1427-1800 calories to maintain my current weight, and 1100-1426 to lose.
Try not to worry about it ... I'm sure once you're back to a regular routine and back home things will adjust themselves. Hang in there girl ... if you need to talk (***** moan, rant or rave), please feel free to email me.
