Breast Pain

Hello Everyone, I had my RNY WLS in August 2005 and reached goal in 10 months. Since last February I have been experiencing breast pain and was wondering if any of you ladies have had the same issue. Last March, I saw the doctor, did a new mammogram, sonogram, etc and nothing showed up. It finally occured to me that I probably have torn something due to the poor girls heading south. I sometimes have searing "hot poker" pain that brings me to tears (especially when I lean over) to just awie pain. I went back to my PCP yesterday and he is referring me to a Plastic Surgeon for a consultation next week. I now am experiencing back problems also. Mind you I went from a 44C to a 36B, so we are not talking about extremely large breasts (more like fruit rollups instead of melons) but major hanging skin. Long story short - since I am experiencing so much pain - I hope my insurance will at least pay for part of the reconstruction since I was a self pay for the WLS. Can anyone relate? If so, please share. Thanks, Sharon

I get chest pains not breast pains and in my case after clearing my heart - I've figured out that is esophageal spasms. Triggered by swallowing certain larger vitamins. I've made adjustments and it is much better if not gone. Cannot help on the pain. That sounds horrible. Good luck! Kathy

I have those same type shooting pains all the time and they hurt so bad. I have fibroids that cause pain and the dr. said caffeine aggrevates them. I cut back on the caff and I feel much better. Also before I lost the weight it was even worse because the dr. said the excess fat in my breast would make them rub together creating more pain.

Thanks for your responses. I gave up caffeine many a year ago due to fibroids. The few times I have tried caffeine since the WLS surgery my pouch said "major ouch", so I haven't reintroduced caffeine to my diet. I don't ever recall pain like this before... Really confusing.... even when I don't have the shooting pain, I still have soreness and hurting right where my breast ends and my armpit begins. Well, maybe I will find out what is going on next week at my doctor appointment. Until then, I will grin and bear it. Thanks, Sharon
